Hi everyone!
Recently I put up a short story of mine and i had three good 'reviews'.
Naturally it boost my ego but about a week a go I bought 'Advice to writers: A Compendium of Quotes, Anecdotes, and Writerly Wisdom from a Dazzling Array of Literary Lights' edited by Jon Winokur.
Its quite good, im sure theres lots of stuff like this around anyway! And just yesterday I was reading the chapter on Critics and Criticism so I have some 'wisdom' to share with you all, especially to those of us who are serious about writing!
'I would recommend the cultivation of extreme indifference to both praise and blame because praise will lead you to vanity, and blame will lead you to self-pity, and both are bad for writers' John Berryman
Hear hear!
'The important thing is that you make sure that neither the favorable nor the unfavorable critics move into your head and take part in the composition of your next work' Thornton Wilder.
'The artists who want to be writers, read the reviews; the artists who want to write, don't' William Faulkner.
And finally- never forget that....
'It's a short walk from the hallelujah to the hoot' Vladimir Nabokov.
Hope this helps! :-) Please encourage each other but also just be honest, if you feel something isn't quite right, tell them in a polite way, maybe you're right.
I wish you all the best! Oh my god, im being so nice!!!!!!
