The mathematical facets were fascinating but I actually preferred 1984 because George Orwell descriptively detailed this totalitarian government and society so vividly. Maybe it was a poor translation of We but the prose was quite difficult and rather dry.

Furthermore, 1984 frightened me more.

Not to throw this into a political discussion, when one considers the implications of privatization of social security, medicare, and elimination of federal programs such as education. Alleged top secret renditions. Orwell is a truly a frightening visionist.

One of the scariest novels I have ever read.

I like We a lot but I wouldn't say I liked it better than 1984, it was just a different take on it, equally as brilliant but on a slightly different plane. There seemed to be more humanity to it, I could relate to the protaganist a little more deeply than Winston in 1984 but I do agree with Stieg that the later was more frightening and threatening perhaps because it was so cold and remote.

I agree with Stieg. I loved Orwells language, and I was able to relate even more with the charater Winston then "A-503" (Its not an "a" I know...I just cant create the symbol...lol.

I would also agree with Idril though. "We" was a masterpiece in itself.

Nope, can't be in your club for that, sorry.

While We stands as a great work, the depth and expansion Orwell uses in 1984 brings it up to another level. No contest.

I prefer Orwell, it's more real and much more understandable.
