Hello.. This is my first posting ( the first of many i hope ).

In a chat with a freind recently we got around to chattering about seashells. And the fact that when you put a seashell up to your ear even though it the sounds like you can still hear the sea it is in fact the sound of your blood flowing through the veins in your ear. And then the sound you hear is the echo of your pounding blood on its journey through your body.

She happen to mention what it would be like to hear yourself dying, hear the sound of the incoming waves slowing down to a gentle fade. I was so struck with that image that it stayed with me and it inspired me to write a poem. But I soon became stuck and couldn’t make it work. Drurie wrote and added a few more lines and suggested a second line under each line. Like a wave flowing in apon a beach, then drifting out.

And thus Tides came into being. I hope you enjoy it..

Tides...

He lies on the ground
................ lies on the shore

Seashell clasped In hand
................Clasped in his hand

Listening to the clashing waves
................listening to the pounding waves

From a far distant land
................Far distant land

There roar slowing fading
...............Roar slowly fading

As his heart beats out
................His heart beats out

The echoing rhythm
................Echoing rhythms

Of his life force
................As his life ebbs out
