Give me a topic. I'll write an Essay, then maybe critiques? I'm so bored.

EDIT: Also a tad crazy.

Specific or just general?

Oh well, here goes...

‘But words are words; I never yet did hear/That the bruised heart was pierced through the ear’
- Othello act 1, sc. 3
Discuss...

I had to do an essay along those lines earlier this year. I look forward to your views...

"What is the importance of Jack Merridew in Lord of the Flies?"

Sorry if that's too vague or simplistic, but I was flicking through my English folder and that's an essay we had to do. Analysing his role through events of the novel, relationships with other characters etc etc.

I studies Othello about...five years ago! BUt i loved it. those are lines are so so ironic in context! Just goes to show...the tongue is mightier than the sword.

Matt, theres so much to do! Read! Read non-fiction. Write. Take a walk. But I personally don't think its a good idea to ask people to give you a topic so you can write can essay on! But thats my opinion. I guess as long you're happy doing it.

The quote's all about how, basically, words do not have that great an impact, and that it is not 'through the ear' - i.e. through words - that a heart can be broken/damaged. It's from Shakespeare's Othello, but you don't really need to read the play to discuss the idea (it helps, though) - it's basically about the importance of words (with any literary references)

I think Shakespeare's treatment of the idea of language and words is amazing! I was writing a comparison of his treatment of the 'theme' (can it be called that?) of words in Othello and Hamlet. Yay Shakespeare!!
