Hmm...my first new topic post. Kind of nervous.

I'm looking for books about characters who move to a different location in an attempt to start over. Kind of a cheesy example, but like Under the Tuscan Sun for starters. The theme should be "self-discovery" or some sort of soul-searching inner journey type of thing. I remember I enjoyed Chopin's The Awakening many many years ago....so maybe something along those lines?

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

You might try Lord Jim by Joseph Conrad, though I'm not really sure if that's exactly what you're looking for. It explores a lot of dark themes like failure, shame, self-deception and hopelessness. Well, actually it's more like a book about someone who wants to start over but somehow just isn't able to pull it off. Doomy and gloomy, like most of Conrad's works.

Well she doesn't actually move, but Lily Bart from 'House of Mirth' goes through a sort of soul-searching journey. 'Focus' by Arthur Miller - the main character sees things in a totally different way by the end. 'Kafka by the shore' by Haruki Murakami. Haven't read 'Under the Tuscan sun' or 'The Awakening' so not sure what you're looking for. I might be guiding you in completely the wrong direction and making a total fool of myself...

booksandtea, I have a book in mind, just can't seem to think of the title. Or the author. Or what it's about for that matter. I'll be sure to get back to you as soon as I figure it out
