I just stumbled across R.K. Narayan's The Painter of Signs. This is a very short but colorful book. The characters are memorable and the plot is engaging. Interesting insights into India and the clashes of old vs. modern cultures. Worth reading. What does anyone else think?

I haven't read much ok R.K.Narayanan...But as I seem to remember Malgudi days were great(I read it about 4-5 years ago...don't remember much.)

He's really good though..

I saw a television series on Malgudi Days, it was fun to see the little Swami and his adventures with his friends. RK Narayanan says a lot of things in simple village settings and the lives of people.
