I read it, unfortunately it was years ago and remember very little.

I have read a Kane and Abel by Archer but I am not sure if it is the same one you are refering to as the one I read was far from being a masterpiece. It was an 'easy-to-read' page turner one would pick while holidaying but I don't think it was a particularly memorable book. It is true that Archer has a flair for story telling but he, in my opinion, lacks originality when it comes to storylines.

Ahh!!! (faints). Archer has only written one Kane and Abel, but I disagree with you completley. Yes it was a rather easy page-turner and I might pick it up for a holiday, but for me it was a page-turner because I was mesmerised. In all my experience of literature, I have found it the quintessential story of life, of people's struggle from poverty to riches and fufill their potential while encountering life's challenges. It also features hatred and love between two men as they struggle to make an empire, a notion that is very revelant for modern times. Yes, I agree with you he has a flair for writing, otherwise he would not have been called 'probably the greatest writer of our age' but for your last comment I don't have an opinion having only read Kane and Abel of his works, yet I have never read nor encountered a book that is like Kane and Abel's plot nor as powerful and stirring.

I've wanted to read this for quite some time, but being stingy as I am, I'm waiting for the price to go down... Haha, I bought False Impression (Which gave me severe deja vu -- DA VINCI CODE) for $25 and the next day it was $7.50... Gahh. I do quite like Archer, he's a favourite, despite writing a book almost identical to one of Dan Brown's.

Like somebody said, it's a page turner and personally I find his writing much better than Sidney Sheldon's. There's also a twist at the end that I find rather touching.
