Tomorrow I'm supposed to be a "designated hitter" for my contemporary women's writing course and my teacher said she is going to be lecturing about female gothic literature.

But I'm not too sure what that is. I googled it and not too much came up, so I was just wondering if anyone could enlighten me on the subject or perhaps provide some helpful links if you know of any. I'm still searching and plan on digging a few books out of the library tomorrow but any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

P.S The book we are discussing is Angela Carter's "Love".

I found the perfect link!

But feel free to discuss the genre, and "Love".

What is the link, Marijane? I love gothic lit!

What I enjoy most about gothic lit is that the setting is a prominent character - I like the idea of a house being personified, and in an unsettling way, holding secrets, or serving as an omen. (Even though I'm sure not all gothic lit is required to feature an isolated mansion!?)

Recently, I've read Rebecca (du Maurier), Jane Eyre(Bronte), The Fall of the House of Usher (Poe), and am reading The Woman in White (Collins).

Does anybody have other Gothic recommendations? Preferably some more obscure titles - lesser known.
