Hi. I'm from Croatia. Here, at the end of the high school education, we must write some kind of graduation work. It could be from any subject, any topic. I picked english: "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder". It turned out to be quite difficult. I don't know where to find material, what to write.....
I'm stucked!! :bawling: If i could get some idea, it would be easier.
Please help!!!
I hope I wrote this correctly.

I don't know if you read "Wuthering Heights"... that was my first thought... To many Cathy seems horrid and terrible, yet Heathcliff loved her and went mad for her..... ummm... I can't think of any definite examples just now, but I think if you look at any partially romantic work of literature you will find that someone my love someone for one reason and someone else may hate that person for the same reason.. We don't really get to choose who we love, it just happens, there is something which we all have in us, our personality etcm, which we can either have people end up embrace that or turn away from it.....

Just think of if you ever had a crush on someone, ask yourself why? Why were you attracted to that particular person??
Because: " Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"..
anyway, hope it helped and good luck!

O Marijana, slatka mala Marijana, tebe ću čekat ja, na prvi rendezvous...
Well, you can change your topic, there is still a lot of time before May. What are you exactly looking for; great love stories, non returned love, hardly understandable love, or something like renesans poetry, like Petrarca or Cervantes?
Ask your teacher, or you could try with your Croatian teacher!

well, that wasn't exactly what I was thinking of, but I could get some ideas out of it.... I guess I could read "Wuthering Heights", if it is any good it could be base for further develop of this subject.... actually, I asked my English teacher if I could get topic about fashion or looks, and she gave me this topic... I can't change topic now,it is too late now. :(
and I can't speak to my Croatian teacher, because we hate each other....

for some reason "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" makes me think of Toni Morrison's 'The Bluest Eye' where the main character Pecola (who is coloured) thinks herself ugly due to her understanding of society's perception of beauty, portrayed through a pale skinned, blue eyed doll (a childhood present).

I hope this helped.

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein is the first thing that comes to my mind. The outward, physical beauty of people and the consequences of society's rejection of someone who is not attractive are major themes of the book. Characters who may seem beautiful and noble at first like Victor Frankenstein and Robert Walton turn out to have nothing but their own self-interest in mind; while Frankenstein's creature can be called a noble savage even though he doesn't possess physical attractiveness.

Also, Hans Christian Andersen's The Ugly Duckling might also work well for your prompt.

Here are the wikipedia pages for both...

First thing coming to mind is the Beauty and the Beast scenario. Read this wiki article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Beauty_and_the_Beast) and maybe you'll find something you could use.
