I've heard it used million times, and so I think I'm a fob, even more so when I actually looked up the dictionary to find its definition. But seriously, what does it mean???

Ooh, ooh, while we're on it, I'd also like to know what "clubbing" is. Just "going to the club"? (It's that simple?)

Yeh, just like "pubbing" except with darker rooms, more women, hyper music instead of cover bands, and ecstasy pills instead of alcohol.

Don't know. In aviation it means: Fuel On Board.

A "fob" is a short chain for holding a pocket watch.

Sadly, here on the west coast of the US "F.O.B." has another meaning and it's meant as something very derogatory. "Fresh Off the Boat," referring to recently arrived immigrants who have yet to assimilate any American culture. Basically, yet another racial insult. I hope elsewhere it has an alternative meaning that is less cruel.

And as far as I know, "clubbing" still means hopping from night club to night club in the course of a single evening.

well ajoe, where i come from "fob" means "f***ed on booze" and "clubbing" means to carry your partying from club to club around the city.

FOB stands for a lot of things, besides the ones you've already mentioned. For example, FOB means "Free On Board", which is a criteria used to value exportations and importations. Basically, it excludes the costs of insurances and fleets.

Sorry if that seemed out of place, but I'm an hour away of starting the academic year again. I guess it had to happen someday. :(

Another possible "F.O.B." which may or may not be insulting depending on your political leanings. This more of a "beltway" expression --

Friend of Bill (Clinton)

I thought that one had fallen out of favor after the last election, but perhaps it lives on somewhere.
