I've dropped it here and there, but I'll make it official now :D:

I'll be going to Dublin for four days in March (10th-14th) with a friend and must say I'm so totally looking forward to it :D.
Since we have quite a few travellors here on LitNet, I'd like to ask you whether you've already been to Dublin, how you liked it, and if you could recommend a nice place to go (museums, other sights, places to eat, shop :D,... All low budget hints, please, we're college students ;)).
Sadly, we'll be missing St. Patrick's Day, I would have loved to see that spectacle, but I'm sure there's lot of other great things to do.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts/experiences :) !

Right next door is the national library of Ireland which has the Yeats Exibition on. (as said by Logos!)

Then there is the national art gallery (just around the corner from other two) which has a yeats gallery and houses the Art of Jack Yeats, John.B.Yeats and Lilly Yeats as well as some pics of W.B.Yeats. Such an artistic family!

Also there are a lot of hop On Hop Off tour buses that will bring you to most of these places. If you go to the Tourist Info centre on Suffolk st you can find out about so many things. There are walking tours, and Pub Crawls (literary and Music ones) the ghost bus tour, Bus tours early in the morning that bring you to Newgrange/ Bru na Boinne.(a total must but will cost some money) which is three neolithic passage tombs one thousand years older than the pyramids in Egypt.

Also if you are going to go for a drink one nite i'd advise you to go to the Gin Palace and tapas bar on Liffey st. does some really nice cocktails. To get there from temple bar you go through merchants arch over the Hapenny bridge, past the statue of the two ladies sitting, and its on your right hand side beside the Epicurian Foodhall. (which does nice food)

for more info for places to go check out this site or just ask me! :-)

Can I stowaway inside one of Cookie's suitcases?

I need a vacation. The few times I was in Ireland was for family related stuff, so not much chance to do sightseeing. The only larger cities I saw were Derry (or Londonderry, if you will) and Belfast. (the ex-in laws live in the Republic of Ireland --Co. Donegal, but only about 90 minutes over the border to Belfast and Derry was even closer.)

Schokokeks, you should try to see the Book of Kells, that must be absolutely beautiful to see in person. :)

oh and they are well worth seeing! I always go to the national History museum and i never get bored of it. Its got everything from the mesolithic (middle stone age) to 1916. although i think all that has been moved to collins barracks. I love to look at all the bronze age jewelery. Because we didnt really have bronze in ireland during this era everything is gold. They are just beautiful! Humm... think i'm going to pop in this weekend now!:p

Thank you all so much for your suggestions !!!
Sorry it took me so long to answer, I couldn't stop celebrating my having been awarded a scholarship last week :D.

I've equipped myself with a travel guide with some extra information on most of the sights you all mentioned and it looks like it's going to be some busy days
