I used a short story with my students last year. It was about a soldier and the love letters he received during the war. After the war they decide to meet in the train station but had never shared photos so she would wear a rose to help him find her. He ends up seeing an old woman wearing the rose and a beautiful young woman walks past him (no rose). He has the choice to talk to the old woman or follow the young one. He decides to talk to the old woman and she tells him that the young girl said that if he came and talked to the old woman then he should go meet the young girl at a restaurant across the street. I use this story and stop where the soldier has to make a decision and I have the students write their own endings to the story before I read them the real one. I would LOVE to find this story. I don't seem to have any copies of it anywhere. Please help me!

I'm sorry that I haven't heard of the story, but I will post activity on your thread and maybe we will have some success. Good luck.

No I don't. :( I'm at a complete loss and I don't think I have enough information to find the story. I've got a backup lesson planned but I would really like to find that story. It's one of my favorite love stories. Thanks for your help!

"Appointment With Love," by Sulamith Ish-Kishor. It originally appeared in a 1943 issue of Collier's; it was subsequently reprinted in A 3rd Serving of Chicken Soup for the Soul. More info can be found here (http://www.snopes.com/glurge/rose.htm#rose2).
*edit* Oh, and here's (http://www.ntu.edu.sg/home/hblim/passages/loveappt.htm) the story. :)
