Okay i know i should really ask my doctor but seeing as it now cost €50 to see one and i've already spent a small fortune over the last few months on doc visits due to bad bout of health i thought i'd seek help here!

I appear to have done something to my foot. It has been sore for the past few days and started hurting me in work. I've this nasty stiffness and numbing pain that seems to really hurt when i bend it downwards, am walking down stairs or when i put pressure on it after resting it or sitting down for awhile. it also feels like a dead weight and i find myself limping from time to time.

Any suggestions?:(

Any suggestions?:(First of all, I'm sorry to hear that Niamh, but: Yes, are right: You really should see a doc about it. Please do, ok?

Secondly, I think you'll need to be a bit more precise when you describe the problem: Like where in the foot it hurts? That "dead weight" makes me wonder: You may have sprained it somehow and caused a bleeding? Anyway: Off to the doc... No if and but about it.

Niamh, sometimes hairline fractures or a sprain may feel like what's happening to you. But, like Claes said, you should see a doctor  Incase you need to bandage it for sometime, you will need professional help. :)

i sprained my other ankle there in august and this feels some what different. It doesnt hurt as much as the pain caused by the sprain was horrible and mainly at my ankle. that had been caused by a fall( dont laugh i fell going UPa set of stairs and got carted off to hos in an ambulance).
this pain is all above my heel partly up my leg, along the upper curve of my foot and all along the edge of my foot. And i dont recall turning my foot badly and i didnt fall.
maybe you both are right, maybe i should see a doc. but i just though i'd ask here first as i've already spent about €500-600 on docs and medication since november. cant afford it at the mo.

Does it happen when your in a hurry or tierd by any chance?

the pain sounds familiar but then for me its the leg of the ankle I busted back in 2003. And if Im tierd or walking not quite exactly write becasue in hurrying I get shooting pains up from my heel up my leg and then foot becomes a killer and goes numb then, Im limping and going even slower strangley doesnt happpen if I run
anyway as everyone else said GO SEE A DR.

Edit: espicially when I look at it and though thepaisn sound a bit the same causes are completly differant

I guess you are more worried about the money you will have to spend. But, look at it this way, if you dont spend now, you may end up spending a lot later, so take care of it when the problem is small. You dont want to end up spending huge amount, with some permanent damage to your leg, God forbid.

Dont think twice, just go to a doc, and you'll be fine

That sounds like you have a neuralgia Nightshade. I get something similar aroud my hip and upper leg called siatica. unfortunately its the other leg to the one with the sore foot. have you ever gone to your doc about it?

yeah i suppose i should go see a dr. But i was only there last week because of a kidney infection. I've a very low immune system at the moment. it got quite a beating there recently from viruses,(that my docs didnt recognise) , chest and synus infections,Pneumonia, and gastroentritis(all one after the other btw. was out of work for five weeks). They are probably sick of the sight of me! I mean the girls in the local pharmecy know who i am now!

you know what, the women in work are right! i should be put down!

Niamh, I feel for you with this situation. When I was first married, neither my husband nor myself had health insurance. We worked, but he was an illegal immigrant (shh, we straightened everything out with INS ;) ) and I worked part time. It was very hard to make a choice between paying the electric bill, buying groceries or going to the doctor. Of course you need to eat, but don't forget without your health, you will find it hard to do much to support yourself.

So dropping my matronly lecture tone, I hope you are seeking medical advice. Are there not lower cost clinics or something you could visit? It has been over ten years since I was last in Ireland, but I swear I could remember my ex sister in law (who was a nurse in training at the time) talking about that sort of thing.

Good luck, and good health.

i sprained my other ankle there in august and this feels some what different.Crutches for a while? So maybe you strained the other foot while you kept the injured one out of harms way? It's been known to happen... You could also have banged it up when you did the job on the other foot, and failed to notice it at the time.

I am also painfully aware of what health problems can do to your economy, even with full insurance. Still: It may get worse as well as even more expensive if you don't see a doc.

Actually the hospital didnt give me crutches. apparently they now believe that it is better to start putting preasure on the injury after two days of rest, so i had to hop around for a few days after resting it. but i was able to walk on it properly after a week, and after two i was back to rushing around so they must be right. I was sent back to work after three days of rest. got to work, got as far as the clock in room and got sent home. was in so much pain. gave me mid shifts for the next few days in the office.

I dont think i cause this injury since my sprain as the reason why i sprained my ankle was i tripped going up a set of stairs in the airport and smashed underneath my ankle off the corner/edge of the step.

Kathy- there used to be cheep clinics but then again ten years ago it was only about £10 to see your doc. thats how much its gone up.

Thanks everyone.!

Oh gawd I hate it when I read about people who don't have access to free/affordable health/medical care/treatment :bawling: while Canada's health care system has its problems I'm so grateful for it.

Numbing pain, maybe a pinched nerve Niamh? maybe compensating for sciatic pain on the one side has led to a strain on the other side/leg/foot? Have you tried icing the painful areas for 20 mins at a time? I too wish you could just go to the doc and get it sorted out, hope you're feeling better soon!

Hey Niamh, I've got a problem with my wrist, which really incapacitates me, and often it feels numb, or like a deadweight, in fact it feels rather like the pains we call "Vokseværk" or pain from growth. But it's more intense then that, and though the fault is in my wrist this numbing pain can spread to my entire arm, i wonder if it's the same thing?
M particular injury comes from strain to the wrist creating a minor "cyst" (not quite right, but it's formed an encasing) around one of the nerves in my wrist, when it fills with fluid, the the pain is unbearable, and i'm on pain killers for it, but then the fluid drains and the pain resides, it comes up every now and then.
I don't know if what your experiencing is the same, but it's taken a few years to develop with me, first the pain, and then it became visible as a lump at m wrist.
The doctor told me to get a particular gell or t, called Feldon Gell, and that has really helped, particularily with easing the pain...
er, i don't know if that was any help... I hope you get better, it's horrible to have essential limbs incappacitated like that!

I'll be fine!
