Has anyone been having trouble with the advertisement below the pull down menus? Everytime I want to click a pull down menu like Search the advertisement gets in the way and I can only click the ad. I used to be able to refresh and it would go away but now that doesn't work.
I know lit net has to advertise to stay in business but how is one to get to the menus?

It happens to me maybe once a week, refreshing seems to work for me.
It's a known issue. See Admin's post # 41 here:

Yes, Virgil, I often have the same trouble, and I'm sure I read another post a while back about it as well. Most of the time the only pull-down menu I use is the Quick Links menu, and it's just on the outer edge of the advertisement on my screen, so I can narrowly bypass it, but the other menus in the center--I've sort of given up hope of ever accessing them properly. Yes, sometimes refreshing the page helps, but it does seem to be getting worse. I too realize the importance of advertisements for the site. Perhaps something can be done to fix the glitch.
EDIT: Oh, thanks, Logos. :)

Are you guys having this issue with text banner ads or animated/moving/image banner ads? because the animated ones seem to be the only ones that interfere with the pull down menus for me, and like I said, or to clarify, I only see that kind of ad maybe once a week.

I'm only having this problem with the animated ads, but the animated ads show up very often. In fact, they often come up several times in a row.

Ya, Logos, animated ones only. I reported this with a screen-shot earlier. Admin said that I need to refresh the page, same as what you suggest.

I too have exp a similar problem...but rest seems to work for me, I think its just luck of the draw...but doesn't repeated refresh draw bandwidth?
can the menus be texted to always be infront?

Once a week? It's every day for me. Or at least it feels that way.

Refresh just got rid of the Sony Reader ad for me, but now I see it is back as I am typing this reply. We'll see what happens next.

Still gone, replaced by four normal text ads, but The Dresden Files now up above, and no telling what that ad will do when I submit this.
Enough!

Still there. Too much!
And these are now three posts too many.
On to other things.

I think I know what I can do.
Really, the graphical video ads are the most desirable, they're from big name advertisers and more or less mean this forum was specially selected to see them. They also pay the most. But I think if I moved them to above the navbar from below it the problem wouldn't happen.

Works like a charm!
And they are pretty to look at.
And they are definitely a tribute to your doing something very right!
So keep up the good work.
Congratulations and heartfelt thanks all around. :D

Thanks Admin. I don't want you lose any business over it, but it was getting annoying and someone else was asking me what to do about it too.

This looks pretty neat. :)
Or on many other sites I have seen advertisements appear as pop-ups. This way the user will have the choice to block the pop-up or let it remain, that ways neither the advertisements will be affected, nor the site content and appearance.
Is that another way? Or the pop-ups come on their own and are not desired by the site owner? I am not really sure though.

The site's author and etext etc pages *do* have pop-up/pop-under ads to help pay for all the hardware, software, time, and resources that go into this wonderful site ;) You should get, I think it is 5 or 6 in a 24 hour period :)

I just thought Id note somthing you know how adverts are evolving and getting smarter and smarter? Its those annoying stick in the middle of your page advers that arent proper pop-ups, you know what I mean dont you?
Well 2 questions first where is the X to close them? and second would there be any way that the text could be formatted so it wraps around the adverts rather than being blocked by them?
I was trying to read Edith whartons Bio- and all I could see was Microsoft--download now  :flare:.
Just thought I d say

What a functional bunch!
There was a problem, then a rational discussion which led to a solution.
I hope the archaeologists digging through the Styrofoam cups in 100,000 years discover this kind of stuff too.
