Waxdoll Birthday Sonnet

There once was a doll who was made out of wax,
And I know that you might find that to be strange.
But I am like Sergeant Joe Friday, I just give you the facts—
Believe of not as you will—facts still remain.
Now this waxen dolly was not made for practicing Voodoo,
She was warm, sweet, well versed, and cute as a bug.
You couldn’t have harmed her beauty with the most horrible hoodoo,
As she curled up like a cat with her book on the rug.
But Father Time is an old rouge who just doesn’t slow down—
In fact, it seems of late that he has caught his second wind.
Before you can blink the old sun circles around,
And Father Time says it’s your birthday again.
And so I come out of nowhere my sonnet to sing:
To the Birthday Girl, Waxdoll. A pretty young thing!
