Shooting An Elephant Newspaper Article

Okay, here's the deal. My A.P. Eng. Lit. teacher assigned me to "write an objective, factual newspaper article recounting the events Orwell describes." The essay is Shooting An Elephant. Any ideas?:idea:

I am unsure of the purpose of that exercise. If you remove Orwell's point of view then you seem to remove the whole point of Orwell's essay. Perhaps your teacher wants to check your grasp of the basic facts.
Here is an alternative to suggest to your teacher to see if it is acceptable. Two contrasting short newspaper articles. One in a Burmese Nationalist paper and another written for the British ex-pat community. That way you could demonstate your grasp of the political issues dealt with by Orwell. You could construct imaginary interviews with the mahout, some locals, eye witnesses and the 'heroic' police officer himself. Sounds like you could have fun.
