So apparently some people are starting to spam with forum PMs.
For the record, no one is going to give you lots of money through a forum PM. If it sounds to good to be true, it always is.
If someone sends you spam through a PM, please post the offender's username here in this thread and we'll ban them (and yes we've already banned Denise01).

Besides the above, not responding to private messages that are obvious spam, asking you for money etc.... please refrain from posting to spam topics in the forums. It draws attention to them and bumps them to the top of the forum lists which is exactly what spammers want. I know it is tempting sometimes to respond to them :p but the best thing to do is ignore them.
Or, if you wish, you can click the http://www.online-literature.com/forums/images/buttons/report.gif Report Post icon under that users' name and follow the instructions :)
--
Also, it is highly recommend that (unless you know the person already) you do *not*, ever, click any links posted in a private message or the forums by an obvious spammer that might say something like "CLICK THIS" or "VISIT THIS SITE" or "FREE XXX HERE" etc.
If you do choose to click on an attachment or link *be very careful*. They can sometimes be malware (malicious software) containing worms, spyware, or say a trojan horse that automatically loads onto your computer and erases your hard drive or spies on you for personal information.
--
If something similar to this weirdness
--->"p il l s 1 1. c o ;)"<---
appears in your posts? You've gotten a virus or other malware on your computer. Please do a virus scan of your computer and read what's in the following link:
http://groups.google.com.na/group/Gmail-ABCs/browse_thread/thread/1e89d941615e3d35
.
.
And...in case you didn't get the memo :) these forums are *not* here to provide free advertising space for your web site.

Thank you for sending it grace, they're now banned.
Indeed, some people here have been sent a private message containing a typical Nigerian Scam (http://www.snopes.com/crime/fraud/nigeria.asp). It is a scam, so please have a laugh about it and don't take it seriously.

The Private Messaging (PM) system is here for your use to correspond with others privately. Please do not abuse this system by any of the methods above, or, as per the Forum Rule #4 and its relevant parts quoted below;
4. In general, you may not use your membership privileges here via posting text or images in the forums, signature lines, or private messaging other members for:
a) flaming, baiting, trolling, or ad hominem (personally attacking or insulting other members),
d) threatening, harassing, abusing or intimidating other members,
e) spamming -- posting commercial messages, overtly promoting personal or commercial websites, and/or promoting/advertising other forums,
g) any illegal activity, and,
h) any other interruptive behaviour that negatively affects other members’ fair use of this site.
Any of the above might result in a site ban, or PM function taken away temporarily or permanently.

Candidly,I perceived this user 'haohaode' is spamming in the General Literature category and in the thread 'Wonderful start from here'.All of this is related to gaming,and he cited a raft of gibberish things,and obviously it is a spam.If some people go to his website,they would get duped.
As you had informed us this is the Literature forum,then I wonder why is there a game topic and a spam right hither.Thereby,this is gibberish and maybe you can banned him and delete his thread which I had cited.Many thanks.

But links in signatures appended to PMs aren't spam, right? Because the link in my sig is to one of my favourite (genuine) sites.

Yes, most of the time links in signatures are allowed; but we have our ways of knowing whether such privilege is being abused :)
Your signature shows at the bottom of your forum posts _and_ private messages.

Thank you for making it clear, Logos. Of course, I would never abuse the privilege, because I like having it.

If you are going to report spam or controversial posts or threads, it is only necessary to report that member ONCE..
Please refrain from reporting **multiple** posts or threads by the SAME spammer.
We have had members abusing the reporting system and that in itself can incur infraction points or forum bannination.
The forum rules have been updated to reflect this.
We really really really appreciate the fact that some members take the time to bring to the Moderators and Administration's attention trouble spots or outright spam on the forums, in private messages, and profile and blog comments etc. etc.
but
please remember the above :)
....
Or, if you wish, you can click the http://www.online-literature.com/forums/images/buttons/report.gif Report Post icon under that users' name and follow the instructions :)

Are you just talking about instances of reporting, say, 5 spam posts that each appear in the span of maybe 10 minutes, all by the same dude in sequence?
Because I might report spam twice a day (typically more than an hour between reports), or even more typically just twice a week or something--but I am not keeping track of the names for these spammers, could be the same guy--might very well be, but for all I know they are (or aren't...) changing login names...

Hey! What about different spammers with different threads? This poster got four different ones today, it was like playing asteroids:
1. A guy talking about 'footie.' Bob's your uncle, right clicked that one, this poster did.
2. The guy talking about golf clubs. Incidentally, he's offering a really good deal. Just send him your credit card numbers.
3. Someone with a blog-link-thing that went unclicked.
4. Can't remember this one. Maybe it didn't happen?
If that's bad, then whoops. Sorry. Was trying to be helpful. Will stop.

**same** dude ? (or dude-eTTe posting about PURSES ?? ) --> yes :)

That's understandable; once you send the report you don't have a record of it, and we realise that. It's someone reporting the **same person** multiple times in say, a few minutes, or 1 hour..that's the problem.

Bingo, whack-a-mole, angry bloggerz..oh where was I.. oh yeah, multiple posters with multiple threads? or, same poster but multiple threads? it doesn't matter how many _threads_- the poster posts, reporting only 1 thread of each offender is sufficient. Hilarious interpretation/commentary welcome :)

Three unique forum names, three different posts, three different skill levels in utilizing the English language. Gotta admit, the golf guy was good and this reader totally fell for it.
The fourth one is just made up to impress the ladies. (can't remember)

In the name of all that is truly meaty and NOT hole-y, it will be done.
Thanks for clearing that up. Will temper the spam battle-rage that seemed to irk the blood today. There was just a flash of red, and when this poster came to, he was surrounded by bodies... so many bodies...
So, uh, thanks again.

Why do the spammers assume the Litnet demographic has a deep yearning to watch futboll on the internet? Seems to be a lot of links to soccer matches recently.
Let me know if I'm getting overly diligent in reporting things, too. Like JackofHearts, the bloodlust takes hold of me. :)
