Hi,

I am new here. I found the site while looking for English translations of Icelandic love poetry and hoped that someone here might be able to help me out? I am getting married in Iceland later this year and thought it would be great to have an Icelandic poem read at the wedding, I have lots of English poems I love but I just wanted it something a bit different.

Thank you in advance.

:)

Well, to give you a starting point, Bjork wrote some amazing lyrics about love and similar things that are easily poetry. Also, Sigur Ros I think are Icelandic, and their lyrics are beautiful.

But otherwise, I would say Birgir Sigurðsson (pen name: Sjón)

There are english translations on there, his poem "love poem" is very sweet.

I was thinking that maybe one or two poems or songs may be found in the Icelandic sagas...I've only read Njal's Saga, many moons ago, but thats my two bits.

Isn't the prose/poetic edda in Old-Icelandic too?
