i have an essay due tomorrow and i was wondering what you thought these could be symbols of:

Telescreens (dangers of technology???)
St. Clement's Church
The photograph with Jones, Aronson, and Rutherford

Thanks!

Chapter seven points out that Jones, Aaronson, and Rutherford were the last surviving leaders of the revolution. They “disappeared for a year or more… and had suddenly been brought forth to incriminate themselves”. The men confessed to lies.
The three are modeled on Bukharin, Zinoviev and Kamenev, the prominent Bolshevik leaders whom Stalin supplanted and executed.
This may point to the novel’s original title The Last Man in Europe. The fate of the three men is a foreshadowing, of Winston’s fate. Eventually Winston “disappears” and returns a changed man.

St. Clement’s is first mentioned in the line “It’s a church, or at least it used to be.”
It is mentioned in a rhyme, which also references lemons. Julia does not remember what a lemon was. Churches and fruit are two things extinct in Winston’s world. They are signs of change. Obviously negative change brought about by an overbearing government.
