Tell me how bad it really is...

So I've had an idea for a book floating around for a bit...not a great literary novel, but something you might pick up for a plane ride, something interesting, with a good plot twist or two...I've been writing for work for years and short stories for longer, but I've never shown anyone anything. If I posted a first chapter here, would anyone have a moment to skim it (1700 words) and just tell me how horrific it really is?

I'd love to comment it and I doubt it's as horrible as you suppose. I think my writing (especially poetry) is particularly horrible, but other people think it's decent. Post your chapter and I'll read it.

I'd read it too. You'll find that people here are really nice and give very constructive criticism without hurting you feelings or making you feel like you can't write. So go for it.
