Good morning everyone. I am a Newbie here and wanted to say hello. I stumbled across this site the other day at work. I found the thread "What are you reading?" and wanted to join because I am always looking for something new to read.

I will say, however, that I am somewhat intimidated by both the introductions and the choices of what people are reading.

I have a Masters in Marketing and work in banking. I LOVE reading and photography and crafts. And my cats. :D

Thanks for letting me come play.

Welcome kitten! Don't feel intimidated by other's reading choices, everyone's taste is different is all. I am sure you read plenty interesting books, feel welcome to share them anytime :)
Marketing is quite a field! My mother is a proffesor of marketing and I find the psychology behind it to be fascinating.
Be sure to post photos of your cats! :D They are great pets!
Enjoy! Thanks for joining.

Hello,

New to the site and excited to be here.

I love to read, but have had a dry spell on discovering great books to read; thought I would give this a shot.

Would especially like a "point in the right direction" for any information that would help me learn to read more effectively and faster.

In addition, I would like to discover books that are considered great, world shaping, and have had big impacts on the lives of our readers.

Some of my favorites: The Dark Tower series (S. King)(which is, by the way, where I get my handle) and Fountainhead/Atlas Shrugged (A. Rand).

Currently reading the Iliad.

Please PM me with any recommendations to the above.

I look forward to meeting you.

Btw, my grammar (is that an "e" or an "a" ?? lol --guess my spelling is questionable as well) is typically very bad. It's mostly associated to laziness but grammar has never been a strong point anyhow. I am computer security professional w/ the government. Prior service military officer.

Hey,
um I'm not exactly sure if I'm doing this whole thread/post thing correctly, but I decided to give it a whirl.
I just came across this site today while looking for summaries of George Orwell's 1984 book (studying for exams- english one coming up on Monday morning).
I very much enjoy reading and have just gotten into my first Jane Austen novel- Sense and Sensibility. I've enjoyed it very much so far and am open and looking for new suggestions for books of similiar topics (old romances- but [I]please[I] not related to war).
I love music, but a big pet peeve of mine is when you're absolutely in love with a certain song but then the radio stations go playing it a million times a day and you get so sick of it that you'll scream if you hear it once more. Erg, soo annoying!
Ok well, I think that's all from me for now.

Heyo, new people! Cool to have some more. Kitten, if I can get away with talking about my dimestore novels, I think you'll be fine. We all need easy reads! Gunslinger, I had to laugh at your puns, were they intentional? ("give it a shot," "point me in the right direction") And way to go reading the Illiad. Have wanted to, but not yet. Ahlefrancais, I think you'll like it here. Tell me how the Jane Austen is. And I also like music.

Welcome everybody!! :)

Hello...my first post. This site is awesome, it will take me a long time to go through and get familiar with everything here. But I am very glad to be here, and when I actually have something to say, well, I'll just say it.

Current book on the nightstand? Hmmm, a few on the go, but a collection of short stories by Margaret Atwood entitled "Bluebeard's Egg" is the most promising.
