What are books that would explain the bizarre events that happen in the Old Testament but at the same time wouldn't destroy my faith altogether?

I have no idea but maybe you could mention some specific incidents and people could try and help?

Ajoe,

Why don't you take a more objective approach. Like try and find the truth, rather than a book that will bolster your flailing belief?:)

I would really recommend almost anything By Karen Armstrong.

"Trough the narrow gate" described why and how she changed from nun into a scientist that does research about theology.

She has a critical social and historical perspective on her studies of the Bible, as well as discussing faith seriously - both positive and negative aspects. I´m reading " The battle for god " and
" The history of god" right now. I think they can be interesting for you. Perhaps we can discuss them later?

;) Thanks, but I think I'm gonna stop reading too many books based on someone's personal religious belief (or lack thereof). Over the weeks since I first posted this question, I've learned not to take the Bible too literally and depend only on it as the source of faith.

Thats actually part of her point :-)

You're AP's disciple now ??

Ajoe, I don't know, but I think some booklets and books published by the Goodnews can help you to get some understanding about the Bible. They published series about many topics in the Bible, like how to understand Bible Propehcy, Bible and the Theory of Evolution, what Bible say about the current situation in the Middle East etc. Most of the books are also filled with scientific arguments and NOT merely about religious belief. I forgot the link, just type Goodnews in the search engine

I hope that will help

Cheers

I would like to recommend a very good book that explains the so-called miracles of the bible. I`m not sure what would they do with your faith though.

Everything by Graham Han**** is good and seems almost logical. He hasn`t written only about the bible but also about some other things on the world (for example the pyramids of Egypt). "The Sign and the Seal" is a book about the ark of the covenant, Then there`s a book about Jesus Christ - I`m not sure how the title is in english - "Three Wise Men" or probably something like that.

Isaac Asimov has written some nice books about biblical propheses, I can`t recall the title right now, it was "Millennia" or something like that I think. That one is weird though. The theories are too revolutional, even for me.

Then there`s a book called "The Second Messiah" but I can`t remember the author right now.

All theories depicted in these books are slightly unusual and it`s a question of faith and reason whether you believe them or not. If you are very religious, I`m not sure what will happen to your deep faith after reading those books though.

I hope I could be a bit helpful:)

The system automatically blocks the "marked" words when their letters are all next to each other, it doesn't matter if they're part of a word or not, or wether it is your purpose or not to make use of bad languaje.
