Want to dramatically improve my poetry.

I just started freewriting in my notebook an hour every day and will eventually move up to two hours. Ultimately, I want to really personal pieces in a creative manner (poems/songs/etc.), but will freewriting at my current rate (possibly more as time goes on) really improve my writing?

I write poetry for only half an hour a day, and write about anything.... Time does not matter. It is your contemporary mood and feelings that influence what you right poetically. I've been writing poetry for approximately 2 months now and I've already ammalgamated 210 or so.

Try a bit of everything. Everybody writes differently. What you call freewriting is best for me, but some people prefer to use traditional forms and apply meter. If you aren't sure, give it all a go.

Possibly the most important thing, though, is to read a lot too.

Any type of practice is always good. Do try to read over your freewriting though and look for what you want to improve, set goals and try to be conscious of them while writing. For example, if you want to stop using run-on sentences try to read through your work and see if you can fix them. Give yourself some constructive criticism, try various forms of writing, read and study other people's writing, and KEEP PRACTICING. what you're doing now is great! hope these tips help! :D

i definitely just started with freeverse and have lately been delving into structured poetry, sometimes just sylabble counting, sometimes with a ryming scheme, so, practice makes perfect, hope to see your poetry soon.
