This morning a guy on my course asked me what the proper name for the genre that the grimm brother and Hans Christian Anderson come under not folktales/lore/mythology but the other name.and I was stumped, now I hate being stumped so how about helping me out ?? :D:D

Thanks

i think Grimm Brothers is fairy tales/folk tales and Anderson is mainly what is called "literary fairy tales", i.e. he made them up himself rather than collecting them in the country side
(or maybe I'm mixing him up with Ruskin?)

Pope Clement VIII forbade both "Christians and Jews from owning, reading, buying or circulating Talmudic or Cabbalistic books or other godless writing..

It's actually Andersen, danish spelling, but it's a common mistake. Anderson sounds more icelandic or swedish.
Don't know if there's a special name for them though... we call them Eventyr, here in denmark which is different from folktales (folkeeventyr).
