View Full Version : The Ghost of Loneliness

I am not lonely
I am the ghost of loneliness

Robed in pallor
A crown of tangled tresses
Jagged, dry lips, licked in anticipation

I gave my life away
Freely, freely
To any and all
Life desires life
And where there is none . . .

Bare feet whisper
To the redwood floor
Eyes adrift in shadow

Silence swallows the moments
I dare not breathe

I, the ghost of loneliness
You, the phantom of life
Touching . . . never touching
I thought you could . . .

And I, the ghost of loneliness
Find life in tender wrists

The distance from me to you - a reach-
but beyond touching

Speaking because we cannot talk
to each other

Wounds beyond healing
broken
bridge
over around away

Everything I'm not saying
Bending to a will beyond
my own

Don't you know

Drifting, slipping
through fingers
Never aching to hold more

Inevitable - the doll with the broken
face
Pretty fake smile for a picture

Then you run

And where you
left me

The
shelf's
too
high

The

shelf's

too

high

And I'm just another broken child
Who jumped too many times

heavy, but nice, i liked your idea of stretching out the last few lines of the second poem (which seems almost a continuation of the first). well done and keep on posting

Thanks Triskele . . . I played around with those lines, tried them like 20 different ways . . . but yeah, I like how it turned out. Thanks for reading and taking the time to respond :)
