I also think, if my dream comes true, I will get a home on PEIsland.

I loved Rilla of Ingleside too. But I agree: how awful that Walter had to die! The First World War claimed so many lives, so actually L.M. Montgomery was presenting us with a fairly realistic scenario in letting one of Anne's three boys die in battle. In truth, she was very lucky that Jem and Shirley made it home alive, when so many young men didn't. But that Walter the poet, sweet Walter had to be the war casualty, really broke my heart... just the way that it broke Rilla's.

I found out that Walter was going to die before I read the book, so it wasn't much of a surprise but it still made me cry.
Which is an unusual thing for me, I read a lot of very sad books but the only other book that has made me cry is Little Women, and I didn't cry until the 4th time I read it.
It was Walter's letter that made me cry, when he wrote "Is there laughter in your face yet, Rilla?" It was so sad. It just was.
War sucks, it may be important and necessary, but it still sucks.
