Should be a great game. Good luck. My Cowboys got eliminated last week. In the most absurd possible way. :bawling:

Did I see a tear in your message Virgil? I like the Cowboys minus one player...guess who? I saw the drop at the end of the game. Heck of a way to lose...but they will be back! I started this thread as Football Fans but someone inserted AMERICAN FOOTBALL FANS...Good idea!!!!!!!

Yeah Virgil, I agree on that Superbowl combo. I always get tired of teams that continue to go to the Superbowl, two times back to back is enough. I used to live in New Orleans, and was there when they opened the Superbowl back up for the Monday Night game. I wouldn't mind seeing Manning go and win, but picking Saints with all my heart.

Go Pats :P If only because they've got Mike Vrabel. Both my teams (Browns and Jets) have been whittled away. And when I say "whittled" in reference to the Browns, I mean "sliced, diced, and served w/ a side of fries." :(

Ok I cant be the only one that wants to see Baltimore win, can I?

Virgil
01-13-2007, 11:44 AM
No. At least for this week. I want them to beat the pants off the Colts. I just realized this morning how how the Colts return to Baltimore is such a momentus event for the Baltimore people. For those that don't know, the Colts before they moved to Indianapolis was the long time team of baltimore, and Baltimore loved them, until they just packed up and left for Indianaopolis. Now the new Balitmore team the ravens are meeting them in the playoffs in Baltimore.

So far, and no offense, it appears you are. And speaking of no OFFENSE...well, never mind. They do have a good team. Some folk here in San Diego were saying it would be the best game of the year...Ravens/Chargers. Whoa, says I...we haven't gotten by the Pats yet!

I was disappointed Ravens lost to Colts. They could have won that one. Defense played great, not letting Manning get a touchdown. But offense was a big let down

Saints looked great. Exciting game.

I am currently in a state of denial! How could we be so stupid on the football field. Head butting; fumble after a interception. I could go on and on but as I previously stated...Brady makes me nervous! But I am not bitter. GO NEW ORLEANS!

That 4th down interception should've been batted down. Would've put the ball out of play and given chargers better field position. I can't wait for Indianapolis to crush the Pats. And Saints to crush da Bears.

My main question is what the hell SD were doing challenging that fumble on the INT, it wasnt even close, the player himself should've known it was the right call and an extra time out at the end might have given them a better chance than a 54 yarder

Yeah, that and they made soooo many mistakes. Not making any one of thse mistakes could have won them the game. I think their inexerience showed.

Indianapolis beats New England. Wow, was that one of the greatest playoff games ever? It was unbelievable. Down 18 points and came back. And it was see-sawing back and forth. Fantastic. So it's Colts versus Bears in the Superbowl.

The Patriots aren't going to be in the SuperBowl?! ( I know, I am showing my ignorance here, I don't follow sports too much.) I better call my girlfriend, she and her daughter are going to need some consoling. They are big time fans of all the New England teams, but especially the Pats and the Red Sox. :bawling:

It was an unbelievable game Kathy. Pats wereleading the whole game, and at one point by 18 points. But Colts slowly came back and took lead in final minute. Your friends will definetly need consoling.

One of the many habits I have given up is betting on football games...though I was pretty good at judging the spread and not being emotional. Thus, I am willing to bet a Afro-American Head Coach shall win the SUPER BOWL. ANY TAKERS!

kilted exile
01-23-2007, 06:38 PM
I have been thinking about the african-american head coach thing. I'm not sure if I was in the league offices whether I would like all of the play that it is getting in the media at the moment. On the one hand I suppose it is a first and a sign that things are changing, but it goes on to highlight how slow the NFL was to adopt minority head coaches, resulting of course in the "Rooney rule". Even Baseball which was arguably the slowest of the Major Professional leagues to integrate had their first african-american World Series manager back in '92. It is however likely a more preferrable story than the Tank Johnson situation (In the US citizens have the right to bear arms, and in Chicago specifically they have the right to arm Bears) or the leagues atrocious policy for dealing with drug cheats (it amazes me that in California there are 2 big name athletes where the use of performance enhancing drugs is likely, however the one that is vilified is not the player that actually tested positive)

The Doritos commercial that will air during the superbowl (it's called "Live the Flavor") was made by a group of teens from my hometown!! Woot! They only spent $12 and they won, a million bucks, I think it is! Wow. Keep your eyes out for it! It's really quite clever actually.

Good to see Manning get a ring. Now people can stop saying "he is a great quarterback, but...". There is no longer a "but". There never should have been a but. He is, and clearly has been from the start, one of the greatest quarterback ever. and when it's all said and done, he may go down as THE greatest ever.

Wanna know something scary? I know this guy on another board I frequent who said that he ran a simulation using Madden 2007. Not a big deal and kind've pointless, I thought. But this was about a week before the game and in the simulation, Devin Hester ran back the opening kickoff for a touchdown. I kid you not. Freaking uncanny. The final score in the sim was Bears 29, Colts 17. Except for the fact that it was the other way around, that was right too!

Chicago were horrid. Short of the 52yd run Jones broke (and of course Hester's runback) they didnt look like scoring at all.

metal134
02-05-2007, 08:23 PM
Yeah, Chicago was outmanned in all phases. I just can't believe that they were manhandled physically by the Colts. That's the last thing I expected. I expected the Colts to win, but would never have expected them to beat up Chicago physically.

Simulations and models can only do so much. For those who buy into global warming, just realize the models they use are no different.

I just think that the odds are insane that in a simulation, Devin Hester would run the opening kicoff back for a touchdown, something that has nver happened ina Super Bowl, and then it happened. If you were to bet something like that on that, you'd be a very rich person today.

I am just glad Manning finally got his Super Bowl win.

Was it my imagination or did the crowd boo when they were introducing the team captains and they got to Muhsin Muhammad? Or does it have something to do with something I don't know about seeing as how I don't really follow the NFL?

I don't normally watch the Superbowl but Peyton used to play for the Vols so that was the only reason I was interested in this game. I am much more interested in college ball than anything else, particularly the SEC (also I am female and my knowledge of the rules of the game are somewhat limited --- I do know that it's a good thing when the offense makes it past the yellow line on a play and I know what it means when they run into the endzone so I am not totally lost :) )

Anyway, what about Prince? I did like the half time show --- although his purple guitar was a little strange.

The commercials are supposed to be such a big deal but I didn't see any that really impressed me at all...of course I wasn't glued to the screen so maybe I missed the good ones. I guess I missed the Dorito commercial.

They weren't booing, they were saying Moooosh! Often in sports, if a player has a name that sounds like boo, fans will do that. That was the joke in that commercial where Manning said, "They weren't saying boo, theyw ere saying moooove-rs". It was funny because fans really do that.

After listening to talk radio and reading message boards over the last couple of days, I just cannot believe there are STILL people who are unimpressed with Manning. I don't get it. This guy has a chance to finish his career as the greatest QB to ever play the game, and there are still those who criticize him. They say, "he has all the regular season stats, but until he wins a Super Bowl, he won't be in the discussion." Well, he won a Super Bowl and what do they say? "Oh, well, he didn't play that well and they won because of Addai and Rhoades." I think they have shown their true colors. They made the decsion that they will not respect Manning no matter what and as soon as he does all the things they say he needs to do, they will come up with some excuse as to why he isn't great.
