Is 'heart of darkness' on the same lines as Conrad's 'Lord Jim' ?
Why hasnt anyone started discussing abt the book ?? ur reviews might coax me into reading it !

No, It's not the same as Lord Jim. Lord Jim is a pretty good book too, but I prefer HOD. It was a case of rereading for me, so I've done that and am waiting for some one else to start so i can hitch a ride- Lazy or what:D
Seriously, avid_reader, I do reccomend the book- it's definitely worth reading- compact and powerful- and I would add, VERY controversial.

No Sindhu , not lazy .. just wanted to know what it was about . The book's not there in our library .. not there in the best bookstall here :( .. anyway .. i hope to read it before this month (this discussion) ends ..

i re-read ur post . yup .. now it is clear :) (wonder if 'Crime and Punishment' is really working on me. its been like this the whole day!!) . went throught the 'Significance of the title: Heart of Darkness ' thread . Got to know that the hero is Marlowe (what a co-incidence , the other day I was reading Dr.Faustus by Marlowe:) ) and that he used the work 'nigger'. abt reading it online - somehow , i've never enjoyed it . you know , the smell of the book , the feeling of holding it .. it s a different thing

AAHHhhhhhh....Heart of Darkness. A narrator making observations on a narrator as the second tells his story to those assembled on deck. Interesting approach. J. Conrad's examination of the continuum of human capabilities spanning the greatest of good to the greatest of evil.....deep sh**!!! One of my favorite books.

oh man, I have GOT to reread this book ASAP. So many things have been mentioned that I didn't pick up on. I thought what I DID get was pretty deep.
