For those of you that have already started down you're career path, have you ever had a complete career change? or considerd it?
Check this out, I do a phone interview for a production engineering position. At the end of the interview the guy says You're not really a good fit for the engineering position but you would be a great match for a supervisor position. have you ever considered getting into management? I told the guy that I had considered it in the past and may be open to such a position. And hung up. Not really giving it much consideration.
They called today and want to do a face-to-face interview. Now it's a bigger consideration....

I've just had a total career change recently. I used to work in the fashion industry and I got to a place where I just felt I had enough and it wasn't a challenge anymore. Now I work in a very technical industry, total change!
I still get to interact with people which I love, but the two career paths are worlds apart and I'm loving every minute. This new career is helping me explore new strengths and weaknesses.:thumbs_up

Yes...in fact I have experienced one just last month...I have always worked in IT as deskside assistance/network administration, and as a career counsellor/advisor, and last month I changed all that and now work strictly IT at IBM as helpdesk...so I suppose its not that drastic, but I thought I leaned towards the counsellor side of things...
...but I would consider it, going for the interview doesn't mean your committed 100%, you should just go and see how the interview/position feels, and then, go with yer gut, its the best tricorder out there!

I know Im probably not really the one to say it seeing I am barley a year into my 'career' that technically speeking they dont even consider a career job because at the momemnt Im non proffesional but anyway.
When I went to the Career devepmonet student confrence thing one of the thigs they said was''sometimes the only way through is around' and if it feels right embrace changing careeres.
OT: does this mean youll move again??

It was the other way round for me. When I finished studying computers, I didnt get a job in development, it was a lean phase in the industry, already experienced were getting laid off, who will take a fresher. So, it was out of necessity and compulsion that I has to start with a job in Content Writing (for websites and all). It helped me a lot in improving my writing skills, comprehension, grammar etc. And, this has stayed till date. Now, that I am into testing, related to software, it is helping me, other than the work that I do, any document or any writing to be reviewed is many a times given to me.
I think career change only helps in increasing/widening the experience. And in your case since its management, it will only help you. As, to go up the ladder you need to have management skills and experience, only technical knowledge is not sufficient. It also depends upon how you wish to grow further, if you want to grow technically then take the technical ladder, but if you wish to go up to managerial level then take the management ladder. I think technical + management is a deadly combination, but its just my opinion. You should give it a thought, atleast go for the interview and see if you like it. :)

I have considered it but not yet complete it by expressing it in a real act. Because for me, it'd be like jumping of the clift, and at the moment I'm so not ready...

Probably but only ~4 hours from my current position, the bad part is that it's 4 hrs in the wrong direction.
My interview is this tuesday.
