In my opinion, 1984 was an alright book. To be honest however, I did not get as involved with it as this book demands. I believe that all in all, if i were to actually read it in depth and analyze it better than I did, this book would have taught me a lot more. I recomend this book to people that do not have a clue what is going on around them and do not understand the complexity of the control that our government already has. I do advise however, that if you are thinking about reading this book, really think about it. Do not just read it to read it. Read it to understand and ponder about it. Granted, many parts of 1984 are boring and unmoving but, if you are a good reader and can get through it, I think that you can learn a lot from it. I also think that it is amazing that Orwell could write about the issues that he does in 1948. I do not understand how he could possibly have all of these warped ideas about the future society and have them all be true.:D

1984 is one of my favorite books. Yes, some parts of the novel are not particularly eventful, but I feel they are placed with good reason. The dull points seem to reflect the quotidian lives led by those in the novel. To comment on your question of Orwell’s idea of truth; I don’t feel that this is how he saw the world. I think that Orwell wrote this novel as a response to governments of his time. I see this novel as a lucid warning for citizens to avoid giving their government too much power. Almost any reader will feel that the Orwellian society represented, is not the way society “should” be. This novel is amazing because it is timeless. Even today, we must question how much authority we should give our government. How much control must we provide the government, in order to secure our safety?
