I personally dont really understand this book!!:flare: But i did catch on to room 101 it was pretty torturous...what i dont get is why o'brien is doing this to winston?? i got really confused toward this part of the book!! i do know that the torture was so horrid that he wanted them to take in julia instead the pain was so unbearable!!... i just dont get why!!

Well, I personally think that O'Brien has been through Room 101 before. I think that everybody has to experience Room 101, and go through that kind of torture because, it is a tactic of control. Goldstein strikes fear in his "civilians" by torturing them, and by that he can gain more control. I think that Julia will be put through Room 101 next and the person who will be there torturing her will be Winston. In closing, I think this is just something that everyone goes through, which makes them scared.

Well,everybody has to go through room 101, because O'Brien has to have control and he could ues room 101 the scare them and then he will win and they will be with big brother,so really it is all a trick so they will go with big brother.

The reason for torturing Winston in room 101 is to force him to become a willing servant of Big Brother and to destroy the feelings he has for Julia. I disagree about the idea that everyone has to go through room 101, I reckon it's probably just reserved for those who need a "helping hand" to love Big Brother and I doubt that Winston will end up torturing ulia, the book seems to suggest that Julia has been tortured at the same time as Winson and becomes what he becomes.

Obrien most likely was against Big Brother before and went into Room 101 but then he turned loyal to love Big brother as winston does later in the book... Obrien was planning to capture winston the whole time and im sure that winstom will do this to other people (if the book were to continue)
