Do you ever think of something you would like to write about, but know it isnīt ready yet? Like, it takes days until you finally have the words inside of you and they are ready to become a poem? Does that make sense, or am I just insane?

Your insane. No, I'm just kidding. This happens to me everday. It's hard being poetic when you're trying to be poetic. For me, sometimes the ideas are there but the words never come around; so instead I just jot down my idea and what I was trying to create, and move on until inspiration strikes. Don't they call this writer's block? Anyways, sometimes I also bounce my ideas off someone I trust to get me out of my writer's rut.

absolutely makes sense, I say 'I've got one brewing'. but if anyone asked me for specifics I'd give them a blank look. and then one morning, night or midnight, I sit down and out it comes, not quite fully hatched, but surprising me with volume and content when before I wasn't even sure if the words were there yet. I also dream in poetry a lot, which drives me crazy, because those dream poems are incredible ~ to my dream mind of course. :D but I can never remember them in the morning. :(

I´m glad I´m not the only one. The other night before falling asleep, I couldn´t seem to think out of meter. It was very odd.

Yeah - I know what you mean except for me, it's the opposite - I keep hearing this rhyme with very good poetic meter recited to me by my wife - most nights she recites with a fair amount of passion I might add,
"Not tonight for goodness sake
You know I've got a headache!!"

It's not a rhyme I'm particularly fond of actually... :crash:

yep you're insane :D just kidding ...... about the poetry, brewing or otherwise, it's strange, I won't even be conciously thinking about poetry but suddenly have the urge, compulsion, whatever to write, and there it is, I've sometimes wondered if I've written the poem sometime before b/c it's somehow usually all there, just like that. I could have months and days where I almost drive myself crazy writing on any availble surface, gum wrappers, tissues, my hand, and then other times, I think there was a record 8 month dry spell, so to speak. Go figure . . . :)

Hello.

Read poetry. Read all the poems that you can get your hands on. Try out as many different authors as possible. That will really help. However, look for published poets and even famous ones - ie Edgar Allan Poe, T.S. Eliot, Sylvia Plath (I had to mention her, she's one of my favorites), EE Cummings, William Butler Yeats, Emily Dickinson, Robert Frost, William Wordsworth... just to name a few.

And then practice writing on your own. Write all kinds of poems and don't worry about how good they are. Just write them. They will develop over time.

I hope this helps,

Arania.
