Hello Catherine0007.

The "wild" in WH refers firstly to the moors, the actual location of the house caled Wuthering Heights. This was based on Haworth, the village where the Brontes resided, in the Yorkshire Moors. It is a wild, mossy area, particularly bleak in Winter. It also has a wild beauty, which obviously captivated young Emily.

At several points in the novel, the moors appear to influence the characters. At the beginning Mr Lockwood when he visits WH.The spirit of Cathy appears from the moors in Chap 3. These early scenes set up the influence of the moors later in the novel.

The wildness of the moors represents or mirrors Heathcliff s wild character and the early Cathy s wayward ways, and also their love for eachother. The moors symbolize freedom in the novel.

So look in the novel for those chapters which handle this aspect of the setting.

Hope that helps somewhat.

All the best.
