It's an interesting concept. This website will email you sections of a book of your choice at a time of your choosing. I think it will help me get around to reading certain books I've always wanted to pick up, but just never seem to have the time. I don't know how well it works yet. My first selection from them will be "Wuthering Heights", I get the first chapter Friday and can't wait!

I'm looking at the site, and it's interesting. My problem is that I'm always on the go.

I do check my email everyday, and rarely have time during the semester to pick up and finish a book, this sounds like a good idea. I am going to check it out. Thanks a bunch Nick!

I think Poe might dislike this idea for a possible 'lack of unified effect.'

That´s amazing. I think I´m in love.

Great site, unfortunately I don't like reading online - as in on the computer. I prefer the actual books for some reason - it has more meaning to me for some reason. Thanks for the link though, I might try it out :)

I'm necro-ing this thread, aren't I? Oh well.

I love this site. I've already used it to finish the following books:

Alcestis
Antigone
The Picture of Dorian Gray
The Adventures of Tom Sawyer

The only thing that bothers me about it is that I can only sign up for three books per email address. I created several other email addresses and then had those forward books to my main one so I can read more. For me, it works best when I read small pieces of many books at once.

PS: I noticed they have a forum now. Are any of you signed up for the forum?

Cool. I just signed up for Conrad's Nostromo. We'll see how it works.

I agree with Axis, I don't really like reading on the comp..something about the feel of a book in your hands...it never fails to interest me.

I actually prefer reading from the computer -- not sure why. Actually, that isn't true. My favorite way to read is with pages printed out from the computer. I have no idea why this would be my preference. It seems strange.

Strange! I am a traditionalist. I prefer having the book in my arms, but i don't mind reading on computer. Actually with me it was just a matter of practising. In the begining I didn't like it too, but gradually it stopped bother me.

I used to be really into Harry Potter fan fiction, and I was fine with reading that on the computer, but then I lost access to the internet -- so I'd go to the library and print pages out. I would then wander around the little town around this particular library, go get lunch and a coffee, and sit and read the pages. It was lovely and relaxing. I realize now that THIS is probably what caused my preference.

Still, even for people who don't like reading at the computer, DailyLit should be helpful for those books that are terrible chores. It separates the book into very tiny pieces and sends them for you, so it basically takes maybe five to ten minutes of reading a day. Five to ten minutes isn't much of a sacrifice.

Yes, I just finished my first part of "Walden". It is marvelous. This site really works. It is very good the extracts are so short because I usually don't have enough time and when I sit just for some minutes with the book it took me at least an hour. I hope this will help me, but with this "receive the next fragment immediately" option I don't really know...:D

Alexei, would you mind if I PM you? You seem friendly, and I'm new-ish here, so it would be nice to "get to know" people.

Of course! Go ahead, I will be glad to "get to know" you ;)

Sounds excellent, thanks for sharing. I think I'll use this for a bit of extra reading, on top of the daily dose :)

I used it to read Pygmalion, it worked for quite awhile and I liked it a lot. It did take some getting used to. Reading online isn't always the easiest.

I was thinking of trying Walden with it although I do have the actual book. But I think more difficult reads would be easier this way.

Definitely. I am reading Abbe Mouret's Transgression this way, and I adore it -- it's one of the most beautiful things I've read in a long time -- but there's no way I would've gotten this far (I'm a little over halfway through it) without dailylit. Or rather, there's no way I would've gotten this far through it this quickly without daily lit. The beginning of it absolutely bored me.

I am reading walden in this way and I think it is ok. You have more time to consider it.

Okay now I have a question for everyone using it...do you guys keep the emailed portions you've already read? Do you save them in a file on your email or computer, print them out, or just delete them afterwards?

I'm saving them under a seperate folder in my email. I don't want to delete them just yet.

I save them in a separate file until I finish the book. Sometimes I print them out if I don't have time at the computer, but I still save them until the book is done.

I save the extracts while I am reading them and after that I delete them. I have most of them in other copies so I don't have to save them.

I do that too. I'll delete them all once I'm finished, it's just in case of needing to look back on something.

Just an update. I've been getting them eveyday and it works great. So far I'm happy.
