Perhaps this is too sentimental but I wrote this when I found out my wife had breast cancer. She has now passed the five year period cancer free...Jack

SOMEWHERE

Somewhere across an expanse of time
When I was yours and you were mine.
We pledged our love until the end.
We made an oath, friend to friend.

Somehow the years melted away
Hair tops now, a hint of gray
Children came, children went
Illness came and decided to vent,
It's fury upon you.

Sometimes I wonder if I will be strong
And help you overcome this wrong,
Often I say, why you? Why not me!
Oh God why this evil decree!

I cry alone, in solitude
I worship your strength, your fortitude.
I remember the oath we made friend to friend.
To stand together, strong bookends, yes
Know now across the expanse of time
As we stroll together, your hand in mine
I love you.

OMG, Jack, its sad and it almost made me cry. Thanks for posting it. um...I dont want to mention imagery and structure, i simply want to say - its beautiful! As long as you have faith in the better and mutual love, I know everything is going to be just fine!

Yelena: I certainly didn't mean to make you cry but I guess that is a good thing? I would have sent this privately but there was no contact info for you so thank you for looking at SOMEWHERE. And is that a Monet on your info page? I am trying to learn art appreciation...Best to you...Jack

You are very welcome :-) I really enjoyed reading your poem..and crying in this case is a good thing. I love Monet and Impressionalism. I paint a bit too, but of coarse not as good as Monet :-) Maybe one day I'll post my artwork, who knows...:D

Sentiment is a worthy vice - it shows a sensitive caring soul who treasures soft memory and eternal values!!

Nice to see such love and true friendship!
