The first new thing I learned this morning is that it's Tolkien's birthday. The Tolkien society is even having an official toast: http://www.tolkiensociety.org/toast/2007/index.html
It occured to me that a) I should let people at lit. net know this vital piece of information and, b) as long as I was about it I might as well start a thread where we can celebrate the birthdays of our favorite writers. (Wasn't sure if this properly belonged in General Lit or General Chat, so feel free to move it).
So, for the first author birthday post:
To J.R.R.T., Aur Onnad Meren! (Happy Birthday in elvish). :bday_2:

LOL, when I read the post heading I thought you were celebrating your own birthday. :p
Well, then, Happy birthday Mr. Tolkein.

 Nope, not my birthday for another month or so. Last I checked I wasn't an Author with a capital "A," only a humble scholar--though Mr. Tolkien is an inspiration to all us humble scholars.

To step further into the realm of fantasy, today, January 4th, was the birthday of Jacob Ludwig Carl Grimm, one of the Grimm brothers responsible for compiling the Grimm's Fairy Tales . Here's a link to the Wiki article on him, with links to the Fairy Tales at the bottom: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jakob_Grimm

Well, he's no Tolkien, but I'd like to say Happy Birthday to J. Hector St. John de Crèvecoeur, or Michel-Guilluame-Jean de Crèvecoeur, whichever name he's going by these days. I think it should be a national holiday. We'll call it National What Is an American? Day. Who's with me? :)
