Hello, some new blood here, so feel free to shoot her up. I was inspired to write by a group of construction workers who always hang around at a park near my house. They are bangladeshi nationals who come all the way here to try and make a living, and ofcourse, are invisible to the rest of us. I've tried to not make it too sentimental, while at the same time retaining the essential feel of it.

The Dream Worker

The Dream Worker walks with laboured stoop,
His children tower above his bent back.
Cooperate colossuses all glass and steel
Conceived from his rickety scaffolds.

A new beginning for the newly weds,
Sheltered in a rural country lane.
Made by his hands, yet when the door opens
No ghost of its creator haunts the hall.

In the darkened streets he sometimes walks
Sanctuary a silent park in the night
In company of brethren and drink
Or hushed phone calls in a dingy booth.

Where are you, my maker of dreams?
Do you gaze into my glass cocoon
And behold the splendour of your working?
Or does envy fans its licking flames?

No, you stay unseen, my maker of dreams
For my dreams are ethereal, my own
Stone and steel, are shells stretched strangely thin
What I have now, I have earned myself.

For in our city of dreams
Only so few can come true.

I apologise for this shameless display of self promotion, but i am, albiet somewhat vainly, holding on to the hope that i'm not that terribly bad.
