heys everyone.

I was drawn to this place in a search for some discussion on James Joyce's Portrait, and i'm impressed at how honest everyone is on their impressions of the book. More often than not, you find pseudo-intellectual posturing that extols a work simply for being great.

Anyways a little bit about myself. I'm from Singapore, which is a tiny country in SEA. Right now, i'm waiting for my university term to start, so i'm taking up an odd job writing for a computer game (my other love) magazine. It isn't the most inspiring of works, but it gets me by. I'm also trying to use the time to catch up on reading. I took literature at A levels, and often found myself wanting to know more, and at times find grappling with literature daunting, by virtue of the sheer enormity that great works represent.

I also dabble in creative writing, and am hoplessly trying to find some sort of unique artistic voice. Most of the people who have read my work are still alive.

Hope to get familiar with this place as the days go by.

Welcome Leon! That is wonderful that you are from Singapore! I live in Western Australia so i am very close to Singapore and go to school with many Singaporeans and have been there several times. It's a wonderful place! Some of the best shopping i have ever seen in the world. And the people are so wonderfully kind and polite! :D
Literature is very addictive, i agree. I can assure you this is the perfect place to be if you want to learn more! Great discussions and people here, you will love it I'm sure :D
Best of luck to you!

It is a fond wish of mine, that i might be as excited about my country as everyone else seems to be. It is really quite a dreary place to be

You never really view or appreciate the place you have grown up in. I never thought about how lucky i was when i was growing up to be at the home i was at until i moved across the world. And im sure youll get plenty of oppurtunity to travel and live different places anyway, youll find many countries to be fond of :)
