I want to wish all my Islamic friends a happy holiday. I apologize for ignorance of the Islam. I don't know what the holiday celebrates or entails. But enjoy the day or days and the time with your family. :)

My Durzi friend called me, and he said they also celebrate it.
Moreover, it`s the only Eid they celebrate.

Eid-ul-Azha or Eid-ul-Adha is the word used for Big Eid which is celebrated for three days. On the other hand, Eid-ul-Fitr is for Short Eid. :)

Even though, Eid-ul-Fitr is for only one day but I enjoy it the most - no smell of blood in the surrounding.

Oh okay, sorry I missed the actual meaning. I am a way to sleepy at the moment.

Though I haven't heard "adha mubarak" as well, I think that "adha mubarak" can be used because "adha" is the name of Eid and "adha mubarak" means "Eid Mubarak". :)

Well, I didn't even know that Muslims had a holiday this time of year anyway...
And I thought eid was the end of Ramadan because that's the time when I heard this word (when there was that big traffic jam for 3 days because all the Muslims were going to that particular area of the city for that...Nighty knows what I'm talking about). So there are many eid's? And why? I need a lesson...

There are2 eids one after ramadan ( sort of like easter at the end of lent. And one now which is the tenth day of dul hijah the month when people go off on haj/pilgramige. Basically one of the things to do with it is tHat abraham was willing to sacrifice his son for God but then at the last minute God said he could sacrifice a sheep instead and so we all sacrifice sheep ( or cows/goats/camels depending on how rich you are). Its alot more complicated than that but That is the simplified version.

And there is Eid Mailad-un-Nabi as well which is on the birth date of Holy Prophet (P.B.U.H). Actually Eid is a word which means khushi or a "happy occasion". So we can use it in many ways but as far as Islam goes, I think that there are two Eids as Night has already mentioned. :)

Eid El Fitr is for three days
And Eid El Adha is for four days.
maybe theyr differ from a country to another? I don`t really think so!?

Eid is Feast, Fiesta, Bairam, festivity
Those are the meaning I could find.
Just count it on Feast perfectly.

Durzi???

Lebanon has alot of religious sects.
Just like Islam has Sunnas and Shi`ites, Christianity has Catholic, Orthodox....etc.

Durzi is a religious state.
They claim being like Muslims, though they have another holy book for them.
I also know that, when a man turns the age of 40 or 41, he ONLY THEN will know his real religion, with a condition: He doesn`t tell anyone about it.
I really feel it`s complicated and it`s not a complete sense to me; however, I do respect it greatly.

So yea, Druz celebrate this day. As my Durzi friend told me, "it`s the only feast we celebrate."

Bibliography: See R. B. Betts, The Druze (1988).

Yeah. I either don't get it, Night.

I think Night means it`s not a big feast that lasts for days, just El Fitr and El Adha.
If so, yes I second that. It`s a happy occasion we celebrate since it`s the birthday of our Prophet Mohammed, it`s only one day.

Anyway, enjoy your holiday. :)

Eid Alfitr ,it's like when you say : (name of the occasion)and then Day,so Eid works like the word Day here.

Well, Virgil, both Eid El Fitr and Eid El Ahda depend on the lunar calander.

Well about eid molid its not a proper eid becuase there are only 2 proper eid and every friday. Eid el molidad was somthing invrnted by the I cant rember who were they were now beteen the authmanieen and the abasyin built masjid el azhur? that era.

EID EL FITR is about celebrating the many blessings we have and hoping that God excepts our prays hope ect. While eid el Udha is about sacrifice and celbrating our unity and oness as a people and our willingness to give up what we count most dear if needed but at the same time celbrating that God doesnt ask that much of us really.

Sort of .

And yupts tied lunar calender which means on avarage they move 11 days forward every year. and every thirty years the days fall the same. So when Im 30 my arabic and english birthdays will be on the same day.
