Hey, Uzziel, I have not watched the Lake House yet, but I guess it is a nice one, so I will find it and watch it.
One of my favourite movies is brave heart. I think that one is so great! I learned a lot such as what is love, what is freedom, what is wise, why and how to live ect from this movie.
I love watching movies by the way, and there are many good ones I think.

I really love A Room With a View - lovely adaptation of a book. Never seen The Lake House or Braveheart (what have I been doing?!! Reading I guess!) so can't comment on those.

Do you find that when you see a movie adaptation of a book you've read you're always disappointed? I would generally prefer to see the movie first, then read the book as the book is always more in depth and the characterisation more three dimensional. Prime example of that is Captain Corelli's Mandolin - one of my favourite books of all time brutalised in movie form. :bawling: Have you had any similar experiences?

haha, Bii. I agree with you! At least I always disappointed watch a movie after read the book. For example, I prefer reading the books Harry Potter to watching the movies~
Anyway, just talk about the movies though some of them didn't adaptate of a book.

I prefer reading the books first before going to the theatres. I loved the Harry Potter series as the books but went over my top when I watched the movie adaptations! The more significant scenes were cut and even deleted! Mortification then came over. :p

But I would recommend all of you to watch and read The Green Mile: novel by Stephen King. It was filmed in 1999 starring Tom Hanks.

It is one movie that didn't, in any way, provoked frustration inside of me. It is one of my best favorite movies and definitely one of the best novels ever.

I discussed the book already in this thread : What are you reading now? (http://www.online-literature.com/forums/showpost.php?p=283415&postcount=1605).

I haven't got around to watching Braveheart yet, Moonface. It always just slips my schedule!

They shoulda let Terry Gilliam direct....*sigh* when will they learn....

Oh, and there are plenty of movie topics including a favorite movies topic that I'm sure you could find quite easily using search or even checking the first 4 or 5 pages in General Chat.

Hey, Laindessiel! I am sure I will research The Green Mile!
By the way, I love another moive Homeless to Harvard. I am not sure you know it, because it is not famous enough, but I love it so much! The story tells about that little girl Liz was born in a drug-addicted family, and her mother died when she was just 14! She has to live on her own. She's smart and work hard and return to school. At last, she got the New York Times scholarship to Harvard. I think she encourage me to overcome the difficulties! It is an adaption of true story. I was crying when I watched it. Liz taught me how to love and how to face the difficulties! Be strong~

How inspiring! Now that is how a movie should be like: to help and inspire others to do better with their lives. Good on you, Herm. I'll search that one too. Is is a Chinese movie?

(So there really is a New York Times scholarship to Harvard huh? *thinking of trying it...* ;)

Gilliam is brilliant, my favorite movies he's done are 'Brazil' and 'Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas,' admittedly not films directed towards younger viewers but very imaginative and creative, which is what is needed for Harry Potter. He was J.K. Rowlings first pick and he wanted to do them, but of course studio execs care always about money before creativity and quality, so we're stuck with the version you see now.

I'm very excited in January during Stoppardfest they are playing Brazil (along with several other Stoppard written movies) at one of our theatres. :D

If you guys want a couple of really good movies, check out Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Memento. Independant films. They are great! Real mind teasers.

Personally though, I love anything that M. Night Shamylan does. I adore his movies. Just got Lady in the Water and I really enjoyed it. His movies are never quite what you expect them to be, and that is why he is a GENIUS! Not to mention he's quite a cutie, too.

I love Gone with the Wind and any other film with Clark Gable(saw until now just ''Manhattan Melodrama'' and ''It Happened One Night''-each of them great movies 10/10). And I also adore Vivien Leigh; watch ''That Hamilton Woman'' and ''Waterloo Bridge''. Another fav of mine is Laurance Olivier, especially in the classic romance ''Wuthering Heights''; he's fabulous in ''Rebecca'' and you fall in love with him in ''Lady Hamilton'' and he creats a mesmerizing Darcy in "Pride and Prejudice".
As you see, I am a real old film lover, I'm always looking forward watching black and white films(as you may see GWTW is an exception). l love viewing all the time other movies, but, frankly, my dear,I have never seen until now a better film that Gone with the Wind and I think I will never see. It had everything-actors,screenplay,author(Margaret Mitchell),musical score and many many others. GWTW is the best ever!

Hey, Lain! Homeless to Harvard is really a good movie! That's not a chinese movie but American movie. That girl Liz lived in New York when she was young. Now she may still in America. Anyway it is a great movie I think. Some of my friends watched it and promise to study hard! lol
By the way, Lain is a nice and cute name I think, and I like it ! Have a good day!:yawnb:

Wow, everyone has such good taste in films! I too love "Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind" and "Brazil".
Just like with books, i could never decide on a single favorite movie. I love many classics, but some of the more recent ones i loved were "I Heart Huckabees", and "Little Miss Sunshine". I also loved "Edward Scissorhands","American Beauty","Harold and Maude", "Thelma and Louise", and most of the Woody Allen and Monty Python flicks.

I have actually never seen any of the Monty Python movies. My friends quote them incessantly and it drives me absolutely crazy. I like Lucky Number Slevin, Snatch, and millions of others. I loved Point of No Return with Bridget Fonda.
