No and yes, Scher. Although my 10-year old brother is more excited about me getting my driver's license than I do. http://www.websmileys.com/sm/crazy/043.gif

Yeah, I just turned 18, and it's pretty weird. Knowing that I could move out of the house and start my own life however I want is great, until I remember about that whole "paying for college on my own" bit... I'll be 19 approximately 11 months from now, though...

I'll be 28 this year. Seems like such a nonsense age to be. Who turns 28? Nobody does that anymore. :goof:

Virgil, I've been meaning to tell you, when my dad was your age he seemed like he was becoming decrepit, always bemoaning his outrageously high number of years--but then he turned 50 a couple of years ago, and I've never seen him looking so youthful, vital, and healthy. It makes me think of Odysseus standing up to the challenge of Laodamas.

My dad, before the age of fifty:

indeed, so long as I had youth and strength, I was among the first athletes of the age. Now, however, I am worn out by labour and sorrow, for I have gone through much both on the field of battle and by the waves of the weary sea
~Odysses, before the competition

My dad after 50:

"Young men," said he, "come up to that throw if you can, and I will throw another disc as heavy or even heavier. If anyone wants to have a bout with me let him come on, for I am exceedingly angry; I will box, wrestle, or run, I do not care what it is
~Odysseus, after he has kicked the pants off all the young men

 Anyway, I can see the same thing happening in your case, Virgil. Look forward to 50!

Thanks Jean-B. I feel youthful, vital, and healthy now. It's the realization that most of the years are actually behind you rather than ahead of you. It's sort of like a Kirkenkard fear of life coming to an end.

Oh, i've already turned my age for this year...but in a mere 4 months + the rest of december I will be a wizened 16...

Me? 16? I would never have imagined myself so old. As a toddler, even 12 seemed so gargantuan (pardon my spelling heh)

I'll be getting a driver's license (the youngest in my family, my two sisters both waited till 17 mwaha!) too, and my main birthday present would be not having to pay for the insurance.

Seeing how much I've acheived this past Fall Semester, I dare to have high hopes for the Spring. Who knows what the sweet sixteen will bring for me?

Happy Holidays to everyone!

Twenty was such an odd age. I felt like i was in limbo. Not quite a teenager anymore, but not yet twentyone Twenty first birthdays are one of the most important in Ireland, celebrated more than Eighteenths. Dont know why its still important though because you are legally able to do everything at Eighteen now unlike in the past when you had to be twentyone to vote. think thats were the tradition started. After all its only a tradition now!

it makes me think of an old guy full of hormones that have slumbered for 35 years, have suddenly been woken up and haven't caught on to his chronological age!
well in general... but in this particular case, I think our Virgil is much too nice and decent to turn out that way :)

I'll be 26, same age bracket as last year. That's not much better than 28. You run out of significant birthdays after you turn 21. I liked 17 and 21. Although you're officially grown-up, come-of-age, mature, major and what not over here at 18, 21 sounded so much better.
I think I'll stop counting or skip the even numbers.

I'm stuck in my age bracket for a while :p I turn 21 in March...wooo legal all over again! lol...

When you grow up knowing that 21 is legal (for clubbing and drinking), and then move at the age of 16 to a place where 18 is legal, you celebrate 18 but then you go back to visit and you're not legal again...it takes away the magic of the age...

I guess it all doesn't matter, since no matter how you look at it I've been clubbing since 18 and there's no changing that...

I'm going to take a moment to pout, so bear with me.

:bawling: I turned 25 this December, so I have begun to weep for my wasted youth.
Its depressing. I'm a quarter of a century old. I have lived 1/4 of my estimated life. Its enough to make one go out and get something pierced and tatooed and drink alcohol shots off of a sweaty guy named Chad! :bawling:

 not that I did that or anything.

Thank you very much for trying to cheer me up. Not sure why but this birthday just hit me really hard. *sigh* I think it's because I'm still unsure of where I want to go with my life, not to mention all of my friends (all but 1!!!!) got married this year or had a baby or graduated. *grumbles* damned over-achievers.

As for my estimated life line, I'm sure that barring a catastrophic meteor accident or Arrmaggedon, I'll probably be around to see my 100th. Judging of course that nearly all the women in my family (on both sides) have seen 100 years. The ones who didn't see 100 at least saw 90. So I'm really just playing the stakes.

............some days i am fifteen, racing down a frozen river on sharply honed ice skates. Somedays I am twelve and letting off fireworks and trying not to get caught by the police. And some days I am older, more mature, wiser. Then there are the days when injury or hard work make me feel as if I am seventy, stooped, achy, a little cranky. And there have been many days of falling in love that bequeath the experience of timelessness to life, a revelry of having always existed, always existing. But in fact, as I move once again into the sign of Taurus this spring i will receive the gift of 50 fantastic years. Yeah for me!!!!!!

Currently 17 (according to my birth certificate), but I feel like I've been stuck at eight for quite a few years. I still feel like that silly little girl that wears pig tails all the time, and froofy dresses, and laughs at lame jokes. Maybe it's something of the shyness coming in. I'll be eighteen. I dislike the fact that eighteen means freedom because I have seen too much of what being younger than eighteen can do to imprison people in bad situations. And seeing all the incredibly smart minors here illustrates even more what a big laugh it is that the world thinks under eighteen = stupid and helpless. But I'm thankful that I myself am finally reaching this age.

15 in March. I'm kind of scared about getting older. I can't believe I am this old, it's all gone by so fast.I'm sorry to have to tell you this then, but she sad and sorry truth is that the years will keep moving on faster and faster... There is a reason for this, of course. See below.

Im turning 15 this year as well Dark! I feel the same way, everyone tells me that its such a young age but to me it feels like its been a lot. That, my friends, is only natural: It is a lot seen from your perspective. For you, 15 years is the equivalent of your entire lives, right? For me, alas, it represents less than a third of my entire life thus far... It is all about the perspective.

A suggestion, if I may be so bold: Do not measure your lives by your count of past birthdays. That can never be much more than a countdown to the inevitable end. Look at what you experience instead, and enjoy it to the best of your ability.

Agreed. I felt pretty smart at 15.

Then I turned 16. :( At that age, more often than not, retrospect comes with a healthy dose of :brickwalling.

Ah, 15. That was a good age. That was the year before I ruined everything by turning 16, lol.

I was in disbelief when I turned 20. I turn 21 next month and I'm more comfortable with it now...

Very wisely put Claes. It just feels like I am so ignorant sometimes, maybe because of where I live :p

As I said before, age is a relative thing. An interesting comparison: This thread actually inspired me to start a similar thread in another forum: One that has to do with my work... The age distribution is a bit different over there - See the attachment.

I am finally reaching the average age there (they still call me a young pup  ), while I seem to be among the oldest geezers here... :goof:

Hi everyone, I'm 21 and I feel very old, my hair is also thinning out on top which I guess is pretty bad for my age.

Agreed. I felt pretty smart at 15.

Yeah I got that, two years later though around the age of 18. thats when it kicks in that your youth is over.

I've gotten over growing older now though, as you ultimately can't do anything about it there's no use in worrying about it.

It's a shame. I'm finally getting the chance to be a young person, and people have now started telling me that I need to act more mature... I can't win. Although, to be fair, I am the youngest in my year, so I should be allowed to act younger than the rest of the. And I intend to make the most of my 16-ness.

Well, I turned 18 on March 1st. Nothing really special about this age except... having to start thinking about paying for college. I can't wait to be 20 so that when people say I'm an adult, it'll be justified. I still feel like a kid and I'm so scared because of all the pressures my family is putting on me, "because [I'm] an adult." Nonsense. 18-year olds are still quite youthful and unprepared. ahh. :<

I'll be turning 17 on 10th september this year!
But I am not really feeling anything...if you know what i mean!=)
My best friend, and a few other people( and all those people's judgement I trust),they say that I don't act my age!
I act about 3 or 4 years younger! And I feel that too.(but not all the time)
But I love myself the way i am,thats what makes me me!
And I am not planning to change any time soon!=)and anyway, the people about whom I care and whom I love, they all love me just the way I am....and thats what matters!
