Sonnet #119

CXIX.

What potions have I drunk of Siren tears,
Distill'd from limbecks foul as hell within,
Applying fears to hopes and hopes to fears,
Still losing when I saw myself to win!
What wretched errors hath my heart committed,
Whilst it hath thought itself so blessed never!
How have mine eyes out of their spheres been fitted
In the distraction of this madding fever!
O benefit of ill! now I find true
That better is by evil still made better;
And ruin'd love, when it is built anew,
Grows fairer than at first, more strong, far greater.
So I return rebuked to my content
And gain by ill thrice more than I have spent.

XD "gain by ill thrice more than I have spent", wonder what message that sends to little kids. Haha.

I feel so sad every time I read this thread, because I have absolutely no idea what's going on. As there are no discussions from readers who do know what's going on, I simply can't even participate!

We might as well restart the entire thing and discuss it from the beginning. I don't think I'm the only one here who's not up to date on these.

Hi Silv, the whole thing is listed in the Sonnet-a-day collection of threads. You may feel free to read them all, or any in any order. Admin is the person for whom we thank for this lovely network. Admin recently published a book on the sonnets of William Shakespeare. Its kind of nice that you can get up to date on these here on the forums.
