Hi !
2007 is standing outside in front of history's door ……. Just waiting for few days ;)
What do you wish to see in literature with its coming ?

Do wish to see something special or novel in literature (either English literature or literature of your country )?
What are your washings?

America is in dire need of a book that speaks for the generation or provides the connective tissue for one.

in addition, i would love to see Barnes & Noble have a bonfire in the parking lot at each of their stores to burn all of their pop literature books in stock. :)

I hope that authors from my country become worth to be analysed deeply in terms of philology and linguistics and create works that deserve being famous world wide. (without any press controversy, provoking declarations etc) :yawnb:

I too am wishing for Harry Potter 7

Barnes and Noble bonfires of pop lit, hmm, that would be an interesting sight.

I really would like to see some sort of modern Dostoevsky. Pop lit takes no thought whatsoever - I would like someone to write something that has a philosophy or view in it that readers have to think about.

Err...I now I'm being selfish now, but I would love German publishing housing to cut down the sky-rocketing prices for books. They're just not becoming a student's budget, but still they are an existential cultural need !
*pins her claim to the gate* :D

I too have a similar wish, Cookie. It will be so nice if all the good books were reasonably priced. I wouldnt have to think twice before deciding if I have to buy or not, I think the deciding factor to buy a book should be the content and the author and not the price. :)

I only want that more people will read good book in 2007. That will make things to go better.

It's also my whish, grace, but Dostoevsky isn't Dan Brown and I don't think that this new author will find a publisher easily...

Yes I know, my dad says that the author would go unrecognized for awhile.

Better prices for books, yes, that would be awesome.

I would like to see (and I know that this is not only vague, but nearly impossible) a new form of the novel that, rather than trying to be new, takes the forms of all previous eras and combines them. I want someone to tell me something real, but not to restrict it to the actual. I think Toni Morrison could be on the right track for this. Modernism is by far my favorite era for literature, but I think it did not go far enough in its potential. At its height it was exactly on the path of what was most needed, and then it just gave up, and became Post-Modern (an all-purpose derogatory term ;) ).

I don't care if it has a blatant message, or posits a valid or valuable philosophy, but I would love to see a new wave of fiction that focuses on human interactions, reactions, and emotions.

Grace: It seems that many valuable contributions to literature in the past went unrecognized by their contemporaries. It's no reason to quell the longing.

And, yes, I too could go for a 2000 page Harry Potter. :D
