if you've discovered a new band, song, or CD, share it with others here---or anything interesting about the band/sound/lyrics! maybe something that gets your poetic juices flowing (or party juices!) whatever, feel free to include a link to the music too!

I can't imagine why you would think that? ;) :p

I just got The Kooks and I really like them. They have that typical UK indie sound to them but then there's also a very definite reggae influence to a lot of their songs. They remind me a little bit of a local band here, I work with the bassest so I brought it in for him to hear and he agreed. Very good disc. :thumbs_up

Joanna Newsome: Great stuff, she's a clasically trained harpist who decided to make weirdo indie-folk music. Ys has five songs on it, between seven and sixteen minutes long, arranged very much like classical music, with narrative lyrics about astronomy and stuff. I've been suffering for a long time from a Björk addiction, so the arangement and the harp appeals to me greatly.

Emily Haines and the Soft Skeleton: Emily Haines is the singer from the band Metric, which I'm not a particularly big fan of, so it's a bit surprising that I like her solo project so much. She has a very airy (and sexy) voice, and a great kind of jazzy band.

I'll be on this thread a lot as well, I think.

ROCKY VOLTOLATO, I love his music. It is extremely melow, sounds good, nice profound lyrics, with those personal touches that make the music not so manufactured. plus, he doesn´'t over due, take himself to serouisly. Light hearted grief, that floats in melody and meloncholoy, and life in blue jeans and broken down cars.White daisy passing. He´s alot like dave mathews but better in my opinion. Either way, you know those things where if your stranded on a desert island and you can only take one cd, which one would you take? Well, when I for real left the country for 6 months I only took one cd, Rocky.

i sampled both singers - still listening to haines's knives don't have your back cd - both are excellent but haines takes it! the site says that people who bought her cd also bought regina spekter, which i have, but i think spekter sounds more like newsome, very squeaky, erratic voice. also, one of newsome's cd has only five songs on it, a bit unusual. are they extended songs? it looks like haines just has that one cd, is this the case? thanks cuppa!!!
