what is up with all of the conditions that wilson and julia have to answer befor they join the brotherhood? I realy dont understand.

These are just like in a gang when potential members have to do things in order to prove their devotion to the gang, that's what Julia are Winston are doing by agreeing to these extreme things. O'Brien is trying to see if he can trust them to be in the Brotherhood.

seattlegrace90's response is true, but it also goes deeper than that- if you remember when O'Brien is talking to Winston in the Ministry of Love, Winston starts accusing O'Brien of being cruel, heartless and a monster. But in response O'Brien turns on a recorder that plays Winston's own agreement to do horrible things just to ovethrow the party that does horrible things. It's irony- doing horrible things like throwing acid in a baby's face to bring down a tyrannical government. It gives you something to think about- was Winston's reasoning justified? And if so, does it make him better or worse than the Party?

Winston and Julia are asked so many questions to test there "loyalty" to Big Brother. Some of the questions were "would you cut off your arms, or would you throw sulfuric acid in a childs face." These questions are totally insane :idea:
