This man so handsome, he makes women melt,
Sweep them off their feet and into his heart we all delve!
Coupled with charm, great brilliance, vast wit and warmth,
Come on, let's give him a hug, all arm in arm!

Because today, we are celebrating his very special day
Cheers to you, Uncle Virg, and here are gallons of ale! :D
Not to worry, adult birthdays involve lots of drinking,
So let us get it on!, and enjoy this merry-making!

Here's to the man we all love so very much:
Cheerful greetings and red kisses, all gathered in a bunch!
We pray you stay here forevermore, sincerely:
Because here in LitNet, you have found a family.

We love you Uncle Virgil! Have a wonderfully glorious day!

:) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

For a Dear Brother

When my spirit guide dropped in this morning for a chat,
He spoke of meeting with another guide, a great white wolf.
There came a golden glow of knowledge in the eyes of the Great Cat—
"He tells me that his guardian is your brother. This is truth?"
I knew then that the Cougar spoke of but one alone,
Whose birthday it seems falls on this very day.
How wise of the Wolf and Cougar standing proud and strong,
To assure I would not forget Virgil (as if that would take place!)
Like myself, you sometimes walk a path others cannot see,
The spirit of the Wolf within you drives you on your way.
Senses that lead you on, a driving energy to be tireless and free,
That guide you when the night has swallowed up the day.
It cannot be coincidence that the two of us, so different and yet so the same:
Would find our lives marked by an animal, and an "Uncle" by our name...

******* What a cool  WOLF you are! *******

Great IDEA having another BIRTHDAY, but refusing to look a day over 21! (a little exaggeration is ok - had to say at least 21, for a decent amount of candles and legal age). Have a cool DRINK on me - just put it on my tab!

If I knew how to post a decent size picture within my type, I would send a photo of the cake I just baked you - Strawberry Shortcake with tons of whipped cream - no calories in cyberspace, so eat all you want....fresh strawberries....eternal summer in imagination, you know.......please do enjoy!

So :thumbs_up 's up and hats off to the NOBLE and POETIC VIRGIL
everyone's FRIEND on Lit Net!!!

Howdy Virgil. Happy Birthday! What a nice present you got: A thread full of well-wishers and friends! I was going to buy you a nice '61 Lincoln Continental, or something equally big and shiny, but it would only be dwarfed by this cumulative gift from the lit-net. :bday_2:

From the leaves that sang Hamlet and Macbeth,
Came an Uncle named after a Roman poet
A name that I dare not speak, once before
But now, it is for him that I'm dedicating this poem
A man known for his charm and wit
For his love for dogs and anything Literary
And now, for my Uncle's birthday, let me, merrily
Wish him a Very Happy Birthday!

Happy Birthday, Uncle Virg! Enjoy your day!:D

Sorry if it is a bit out of tune..:(

Thank you all so much. You don't know how much this means to me.

Lain, the poem was lovely, as lovely as you, and toni that picture was fabulous. I'm going to print it out and hang it on my pin board.

Pensy, Scher, Mir, Kathy - thank you for the cakes. If I ate all that I'd really be over weight. ;) I would really love to try that Limenocello cake, if such a cake really exists. :)

Sleepy and Schoky, my two german friends who write better english than I do, I love the presents, a cookie and puppy. You can't beat that. :)

Jon, yes I'll try to keep it wild. But I wonder what you mean by "it?" Thank you.

Night, thank you for the card. How thoughtful and it was so right. ;)

Taleen, Subby, Janine, Reisa - Thank you for being my special friends here and talking to me in PMs. My wife wants to know why are all my special friends women. I don't know. You guys are so considerate and good listeners. ;) Yes, Riesa it was a hard year, but lit net made it better. I shudder to think if I didn't have an outlet.

I can't possibly write personal thank you paragragh for everyone, but I want to mention each of your names, because no one is forgotten.

Jean-B (the only other person I know who reads Ezra Pound), TEND (the most literate and intellectual boxer in history probably), Drama (so precocious a young lady), CuppaJoe (so precocious a young man), Maddie (so classy), Claus (fellow engineer), Seranata (fellow animal lover; I hope you get that koatimundi, whatever that is), Tal (who we keep waiting for that interview, or should I say interviews), Kilt (someday we have to have a beer or two or three togther), Aimus (the handsome one of lit net who stirs all the ladies hearts), Logos and Jay( thank you for all you do here to keep this place going), Grace86 (your name is perfect for you, you have such grace), Stan (we've got to start a new pirate thread; maybe we can hijeck that girls talk thread ;) ), Idril (whose knowledge of music is overwhelming), Miss C (keep socking it to Robin), Shalot (Love that Tennyson poem too; how come no one ever talks Tennyson here? Perhaps we'll have to start that thread), Lily Adams (who I'm always on best behavior because I don't want her to know how poor my etiquette habits are), and Papaya (I love it when you call me me Virgie:D ; I don't know why), and there's Robin and Shoutgrace, who probably haven't seen this thread yet, but are such fine young gentlemen. Robin is probably out there somewhere french kissing someone.
Thank you all and I hope I didn't miss anyone. And thank you to those dear friends (Petrarch comes to mind) who may not have seen the thread.

Which brings me to highlight the most special person, Pendragon.

Pen I loved your poem and will keep it always as a keepsake. Yes the cougar and the wolf can be great friends. This is truth, if not on earth than in heaven. We may both be called "uncle" but you are the gentle one. I can get prickly and petulant (and I apologize to anyone that I may have). I admire your calmness and warmth. These lines from your poem are dear indeed:

The spirit of the Wolf within you drives you on your way.
Senses that lead you on, a driving energy to be tireless and free

Thanks again.

First Downing, I have to apologize. It looks like I forgot to mention your name in my thank you post above. I meant to say how I like you choice of favorite novels, but some how in trying to go back and forth between my writing the post and seeing what others wrote I messed up. I'm sorry.

Yes, that is a striking avatar that I found on the internet when I was looking for one. There was someone else who had the same once as well, and he was actually on lit net before me but was not much of a poster, so I had not seen it. His lit net name is Gozeta, and you can probably look him up. He actually was a soldier stationed in Iraq and I offered to change mine (I felt he deserved the honor) but he insisted we could both keep it. I haven't seen him around lately. I hope to God he's ok.

As to Vincit Qui Se Vincit, that is a personal motto I took on a number of years ago. It means He conquors who conquors himself. Frankly I have not held to it as I used to. I'm afraid self-discipline is difficult. But it's still there as a reminder.

There is no problem, Virgil! I do understand that you were very busy answering to all the people who said ''Happy birthday'' to you. There is nothing to apologize for. Thanks for telling me which would be the translation of your personal motto; it's quite interesting, I have never heard of it before. I study Latin in school and I'm intersted in learning other mottos. As you see, I also have one.
Nice the story of your avatar. Also thabk you on complementing me about the choise of my favourite books- that was very nice of you. They are not as difficult as yours, but it's a start :)
I hope once again you had a nice birthday- actually I did read your narration about it- a very fine one.

A belated Happy Birthday to you Virg. I think I was on a plane on the big day, and thus missed this thread, since I would obviously have posted sooner otherwise. To make up for it I offer three blinking birthday signs:

:bday_2: :bday_2: :bday_2:

A string of dancing bananas:

and a little something for you and your sweetie to toast with:

Hope you got to drink some of the real thing in the course of your natal celebrations.

Hi Petrarch, Are you on the West Coast now? If so say "hi" to the Pacific Ocean for me. I miss it. Have a great time and relax and enjoy your holidays there. I love your card to Virg and the pretty bottle of liquor with two glasses - so sunny. I love your wish about drinking the real thing.... and especially "natal celebrations". How funny - good way of putting it. Never heard anyone call a birthday that before. It is cute! V had a super fun day celebrating his birthday on Lit Net. It was quite a day...he loved it!

MissDarcy - that looks scrumptious. What exactly is it? Is the outside made of dark delectable chocolate? Did you make it yourself? I want some, too. It looks so yummy!

Yes, I'm back in the land of my birth, where people are complaining about how cold it is in 60 degree weather. Hope you aren't too frozen right now back on the East Coast.

Hi Janine, I'll be sure to say hello to the Pacific for you. I'm sure it misses you too. How long did you live out on the West Coast for?

The liqueur I gave to Virgil is a bottle of limoncello, apropos of his excellent poem entitled "limoncello," which you should either track down here in the personal poetry forums or ask him to give you a copy of if you haven't read it yet.

Petrarch, I did not live there in CA, but would love to live on the West Coast. Actually, I have been to CA twice and to Washington State 2 times on pretty long visits. My sister lived in CA for years and she lived mostly in Los Gatos, then Petaluma and I love those areas San Fran. I think I left my heart in San Francisco! I have been around CA to Yosemite, and to Tahoe, and along the Pacific Coast Highway..., Point Lobos, Monteray, Hurst Castle, Carmel, etc. loved it all! I also love WA - I had an amazing trip through the Olympic Peninsula camping. Saw Mt. Rainer and Helens, also and loved Seattle. Been in the South of CA, too. My relatives lived there, my grandfather and his third wife and my half aunt, uncle, cousins, etc. CA is dear to my heart....very dear. The sunsets on the Pacific are so lovely...I have stunning photos I took at Pacific Grove.
P, have a great time when you are there. What part of CA are you in. Where were you born?
It is actually very warm here today in New Jersey outside of Philadelphia...unseasonably warm this past week. I know what you mean about CA people freezing when it is 60 out. I experienced that when I was there in Feb., some don't have central heating....I had to come back to Jersey to get warm!
Have fun and relax and enjoy your holidays! I will check out that poem on the L. Sounds neat. Bye for now ~ J

Thank you Alhara. As to "uncle", two of the young girls started calling me that. I guess to my horror, it's spreading. I don't mind if the young people do it, but I rather not think of myself as everyone's uncle. :D I'd rather be thought of as a friend.

Hyvaa syntymapaivaa!
Is that happy birthday in Finnish? Thank you again.

I agree - we should just refer to you as Virgil. When kidding around with you, maybe now and then, the Uncle can slip in. But I am too old to call you uncle and so are a few others. I told Pendragon - forget the Auntie bit. I want to be young in cyberspace and be on equal grounds and a "friend", as you so aptly put it. Some of these kids are smarter and more talented than us. Let's hope we all learn from each other on Lit Net. and can be equal.
