There is no telekran or camera in the room so Big Brother can't see them.

The reason for the room above the antique shop is that there is no tele screens for winston and julia to get caught when they are hideing out, but no hideing spot will last forever. Also the rooms holds lots of rats and bugs, and personally i want to say eww >.>

The bugs do multiply in the heat and julia plays the role of the man while winston is crying about the rat.
