What I found interesting in George Orwells book, 1984, was the Newspeak. The partys basic attempt was to demolish language and use Newspeak. Doing this there were no more feelings being expressed, no more emotions....nothing at all.

This is similar to present day (2006). The Teens have their own language for themselves...something in which most parents dont understand..For instance on Aim (aol instant messanger) kids use the terms lol, omg, ily, ik, idk, idc....bet you didnt even kno what those meant. Well its their/our own language. Basically Aim language is a Newspeak of 2006 rather than 1984. What happened to the paper and pen?

Then and today (1984 & 2006) Are very similar in a lot of ways. Other interesting ways would be privacy...They didnt have privacy then and we dont have privacy now. In 1984 they always had someone watching them. Today you dont know whose watching you. They had the telescreens and the secret police back then, Now a days we got cameras and surveillance camera. Most likely we are always being watched to.

If you have any thing to add be my guest....

I think you're right and welcome to the forum.

Here are three ways that we are possibly being monitored:

1) shopping cards -- in America, you can't go grocery shopping without presenting a shopping card that has a bar code on it. The bar code contains your personal information --- your name, address etc (unless you gave them a fake name and address when you signed up. If you don't, you will have to pay the full retail price, which is ridiculously marked up. And I guess, a record of everything you bought at the store would be connected to that bar code. And unless you paid for everything with cash, and gave them a fake name and address, there is some kind of electronic trail that could eventually lead someone who was looking, back to you.

2) The internet - I suspect that most of what we do is monitored and traceable (and not just when we're at work on someone else's network) When you sign up for this forum even, you have to provide your email address, which you wouldn't even have unless you were paying some service, such as your ISP, or cable company (and you're subject to a credit check when you sign up).

3) Traffic cameras --- they're watching.

It's creepy. You'd have to go to great lengths to stay under the radar. Or at least, that is my uniformed opinion. I don't know any of this with certainty.

Regarding the language that teens today use on Aim, I understand what you are saying and somewhat agree with you but, being someone who uses this language the purpose is to be able to communicate faster. We all still know the normal English language and understand how to write it properly. Yes, it is a new language but, i dont think that it is like Newspeak in the sense that the language is not being completely demolished.

Regarding privacy, I completely agree with your opinions on today's privacy. Our privacy is becoming more and more limited by the day. Public buildings are installing more security cameras all the time. Our entire society is untrusting. With good reason of course but, these kinds of things should not have to happen.:flare:

i acutally think it is like newspeak yes i do use the aim language to but sometimes in essays you will see me writing it too. so i guess if you use it soo much you will be used to it and will start using it when your not supposed to so socitey is kind of dumbing us down:flare:
