Lord Of The Flies[I] by William Golding is related to [I]Dulce Et Decorum Est

Any Thoughts?

In what way do you think they are linked? (I dont see it offhand myself)

I'm studying this for my GCSE (English high school qualification) in English Literature. I can't see a major link between the two; what do you think is the connection?

I absolutely love Lord of the Flies.

They are both about about warfare. 'Lord of the Flies' is obviously about a great deal more as well.

I guess if you're making a link based on death, Dulce et Decorum est relates to honour and dying for the greater good which is kind of the same reasoning the kids use for killing the weaker members of the group like Piggy. Dunno if that's what you were thinking?

What about the gruesome aspect? dulce points out the gruesome ness of war, LofF points out how evil small boys can be by also playing on the gruesome aspects (the killings/pigs head and all that). Lof Flies is all about violence and inherent evil, as is Dulce - the pointless deaths of the nameless soldiers which are repeated over and over (as in his dreams). The characters in LofF also die for 'pointless' reasons -as Ralph questions in chapter 12 - why do they want to kill him? There is no real reason other than we're all evil.
