Hello,

For English class I need to make a claim about William Blake and then write a 10 page essay. I don't know where to begin. I started the research. As of now my claim is: " Blake was misunderstood all of his life. My claim on Blake is that even though he is said to be one of the greatest figures of Romanticism, in reality Blake actually wanted to be misunderstood and tried to sway a reader's and viewer's mind. I believe this beacuse he was only appreciated for his works after his death."

Does this make sense?

Can anyone help me with making a better claim or helping me with this one??

Thank you so much!!

Hi,

Your claim about Blake being misunderstood for most of is life is a good one. He was indeed regarded as an eccentric, and by many as mad - mostly due to his seeing 'visions'.

However, I woudn't advise arguing that he deliberately wanted to be misunderstood. It is important to realise that he had to write in a way that disguised what he really intended. He was even arrested at one point due to suspicion that he was criticising the Government in his work.

Any help?
